국문 초록

이글은 현재까지 학계에 그 전체적 내용과 성격이 보고되지 못한 통감부 시대 학부에서 출간된 “普通學校學徒用 漢文讀本”(1907) 총 4권에 대한 연구이다. 이 독본에 수록된 모든 글의 출전을 찾아내어 정리하면서 그 전반적 성격과 편집의 지향성을 제시하고 당대 일제 한문 교과의 편찬방향 및한국 사찬 독본과 비교해 보았다. 이 독본은 기초문법서 성격의 1권을 제외 하고 수신서에 가까운 성격으로 당대의 현안이나 물상을 배제하고 충효, 우애, 인의, 절개 등의 전통적 윤리관을 강조하는 수구적 성격으로 편찬되었 다. 충효를 강조하는 편집방향은 당대 일본에서 발간된 한문독본과 유사하나 통감부의 한문독본에는 당대의 물상에 대한 글이 거의 배제되고 고대 중국의 텍스트만이 교재로 편찬되었기에, 일본발행 한문독본에 비해서 수구 성의 정도가 훨씬 심하다. 더욱 이 책을 제외한 계몽기 한국인의 私撰 독본 들은 모두 식민지 검열로 유통되지 못한 점을 보면, 피식민자에 대한 차별이 명백하게 드러난다. 고대 중국의 교훈과 고사로만 편찬된 이 통감부의 한문독본에는 학습자의 주의를 현재적인 식민지 모순으로부터 돌리게 하려는 의도가 분명하게 나타난다. 이 한문독본의 수구성과 차별성은 당대적 문제에 대한 대응을 담은 최재학, 박은식 등의 한문독본들과 갑오개혁의 산물인 소학독본 , 국민소학독본 이 가진 진보성과 명백한 대조를 보인다. 통감부의 한문독본은 피식민자 조선인에게 일정한 법적 지위를 부여하지 못한 채 구체적이고 보편적인 근대 이념을 제시하지 못한 총독부의 독본과 동일한 성격이다.

영문 초록

This Paper researches Literary-Chinese Readers for Primary School Students, total 4 volumes, published by the minister of education and learning in Joseon Resident General Era. Since, they are not thoroughly introduced to Korean studies filed, I reveal all sources of units included in them and analyze the editorial orientation and its educational characteristics through comparative study with Korean Literary-Chinese readers, published in private. Furthermore, by reviewing Japanese imperial education policies and Literary-Chinese Readers of same period, published in Japan, I represent that they are composed of conservative materials only highlighting premodern virtues such as loyalty, filial piety and integrity, excluding contemporary ideas and issues. Whereas, literary-Chinese readers published in Japan in same time include contemporary objects and issues, they are thoroughly composed of ancient and mediaeval Chinese texts. With colonial censorship to the progressive Korean literary-Chinese readers published in private by Bak Eun-Sik, Choi Jae-Hak and so on, their editorial orientation clearly presents colonial discrimination to the colonized. Moreover, they enforce intentional distraction to Primary School students from urgent colonial crises in educational policies. Their conservative characteristics and colonial discrimination are more evident in comparison with progressive Korean readers such as Basic Learning Readers from Gabo Reform to enlightenment era. In conclusion, they are identical to the readers of Joseon Government General excluding modern and universal values.
