윤대성 후기 희곡에 나타난 젠더 문제

국문 초록

본고는 중년의 위기를 다룬 희곡에서 노년희곡에 이르는 윤대성의 후기 희곡을 대상으로, 여기에 나타난 젠더의 변화 양상을 고찰한다. 윤대성 희곡은 1990년대를 전후하여 한국 사회에 나타난 일련의 젠더 변동을 배경으로 한다. 먼저 중년의 위기를 다룬 희곡은 가부장제의 모순을 인정하면서도 젠더 변화를 ‘남성성의 위기’로 인식하는 양가적 시선을 취한다. 그러나 그러면서도 여성과 남성을 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 관계로 보고 남성을 여성에 의존적인 존재로 봄으로써 남성성의 자기반성으로 나아간다. 그리고 마침내 <아름다운 꿈 깨어나서>, <동행> 등 노년희곡에 이르러 친밀하고 평등한 젠더 관계를 지향하는바 변화된 남성성을 드러낸다. 이로써 윤대성 희곡은 젠더 문제를 남성성의 관점에서 지속적으로 다루면서 궁극적으로 미래지향적인 비전을 제시했다는 의의가 있다. 그러나 여기에도 한계가 있으니, 무엇보다 윤대성 희곡에 나타난 여성상이 다분히 피상적이고 왜곡되어 있기 때문이다. 또한 미래지향적인 젠더 관계가 ‘헤게모니적 남성성’으로부터 거리가 있는 노년을 주인공으로, 멜로드라마라는 양식에 의존함으로써 비현실적이라는 비판이 가능하다. 그러나 역으로 이것은 한국 현실에서 젠더 평등이 얼마나 지난한 것인가를 드러낸다. 이런 점에서 윤대성 희곡은 한국에서 젠더 문제의 현주소를 보여주는 바로미터라고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis analyzes the gender problem of Yoon Daesung’s late plays, from middle age plays to old age plays. Mr. Yoon’s plays keep an eyes on the change of patriarchy in Korea since 1990’s, in the point of masculinity. Mr. Yoon especially focuses on the gender relation between male and female and at last presents the positive view of masculinity in aspect of gender. To say more concretely, middle age plays reflect the weakening of patriarchy and improvement of self identity of the female. But women are treated superficially and keep a sympathetic eye on men, which reveal the uneasiness and fear for the gender change. But Mr. Yoon regards women and men are in an inevitable relation and men rely on women, which are reflected the self-reflection in . And at last old age plays like and reflect a new vision of masculinity moving toward gender equality. But there are some limitations in Mr. Yoon’s plays: At first, the female features are sophisticated and distorted; the new vision of masculinity and gender equality are expressed no other than in old age plays with melodramatic mode. This means that the positive vision of masculinity and gender relation are not expressed in realistic, but unrealitic way. But it can be interpreted that the gender equality is so difficult to realize in Korean society. In this respect, Mr. Yoon’s late plays are the barometer of gender problem in Korean society.
