학생의 성장에 있어 모둠활동이 가지는 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 학생들이 모둠학습을 통해 어떠한 경험을 하는지 그리고 그 경험이 학생의 성장과 관련하여 어떤 의미를 가지는지 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2014년 4월 11일부터 5월 29일까지 경기도에 위치한 네 학교에서 각각 한 학급씩, 총 4학급에 대한 수업 참여 관찰을 실시하였다. 연구자들이 수업 참여 관찰을 하면서 작성한 연구 노트(필드 노트)를 중심으로 수업 참여 관찰 후, 매회 연구진 협의회를 실시하였다. 총 26차시의 수업 참여 관찰, 17회의 교사 면담, 10회의 학생 면담을 통해 자료를 수집한 후 수업 관찰 기록과 학생 면담, 수업 일기 등을 종합적으로 분석하였다. 관찰 결과, 학생들은 모둠활동을 통해 ‘이미’ 이해한 것과 ‘아직’ 이해하지 못한 것을 드러냄으로써, 각자 자신의 배움을 보다 견고하게 만들어가고 있었다. 또한 모둠을 통해 ‘나의 이야기’와 ‘너의 이야기’가 만나면서 자연스럽게 서로의 같음과 다름이 드러났고, 서로를 이해하는 계기가 되고 있었다. 한편, 모둠 활동 중 다양한 오개념들이 발견되기도 했는데 학생들은 모둠을 통해 비록 오개념일지라도 가감 없이 표현함으로써 자신의 학습을 수정하고 재확인하면서 배움을 경험하고 있었다. 마지막으로 모둠은 공부에 대한 의지가 약한 학생들이나 공부를 어떻게 해야 할지 몰라 당황하는 학생들에게 공부 친구를 만들어주고 있었다. 네 학급 모둠활동의 의미를 성장의 관점에서 정리해 보면, 학생의 성장은 관계에서 출발하여 배움의 주인으로 이어져 결국 존재를 풍요롭게 하는 성장으로 그 의미를 가졌다. 친구와 직접 대면하면서 친구의 생각을 이해하고 나의 생각을 알려주며 표현하고 서로 공 유하는 과정을 통해 새로운 관계를 만들어내는 성장의 경험을 할 수 있었다. 또한 학생들은 모둠 속에서 여러 학생들과 자신의 생각, 의견, 지식을 드러내면서 배움을 온전히 자신에게로 가져오는 경험을 하고 있었다. 학 생들은 같이 학습하지만 배움의 결과는 오롯이 스스로의 것이 되는 경험을 하면서 성장할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify what experiences students have through group activities and what implications those experiences have with regards to their growth. For this, I conducted class participating observations on four classes in four different schools, respectively during the period between April 11 and May 29, 2014. Researchers took notes in their research note while participating in classes and held a conference upon completion of class participation based on what they observed and took notes. We have collected data and information after 26 class participating observations, 17 interviews with teachers and 10 interviews with students and conducted a comprehensive analysis of class observation records, students interviews and class diaries etc. Observation results indicate that students expressed what they understood and failed to do so through group Learning activities, making individual students further solidify their learning. In addition, it served as an opportunity for students to naturally revealed their identicalness and difference and to understand one another. Meanwhile, a variety of misconceptions have been discovered while engaging in group activities, and students were experiencing learning while revising and reaffirming what they have learned by plainly expressing their own voices through group activities even if some present misconceptions. Last but not least, it helped students who do not know how to study or with less will power for studying find their study buddies. When it comes to the implications of group activities among students in four classes, the growth of students starts from relationships, leads to the owner of learning, and eventually enriches their existence. They were able to experience a true meaning of growth that builds a new relationship as they engages in directly facing their friends, understanding their friend’s thought, expressing their own ideas and sharing throughout the process. In addition, students were enjoying experience of embedding their learning in themselves as they reveal their thoughts, opinions and knowledge within the group activities. All students engage in learning together but they were able to grow while experiencing that the result of learning is solely under their own responsibility.
