상호동료튜터링 기반 학습동아리 활동의 학습자 경험에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생을 대상으로 정규 영어교과 수업에 상호동료튜터링 기반의 학습동아리 활동을 적용하여, 튜터와 튜티의 역할을 순환적으로 경험한 학습자의 학습적, 사회적인 측면의 경험과 인식을 살펴보고, 대학수업에 활용 가능성을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 2014년 9월 15일부터 2015년 2월 27일까지 주 1-2회의 학습동아리 활동을 한 뒤 연구 참여자가 작성한 학습동아리 활동보고서, 포커스그룹 및 개별 면담자료, 관찰일지 등을 통해 생성된 연구자료를 심층 분석하였다. 분석결과에 따르면, 학습적인 측면에서 학습자는 학습내용의 이해력 증진 및 영어 학습능력 향상, 적극적인 학습태도로 변화, 교수내용의 오개념 우려 및 할당과제에 대한 부담감, 무임승차로 인한 학습동기의 저하를 경험하였다. 사회적인 측면에서 학습자는 인적 네트워크의 구축 및 확장, 동지애와 공동체의식의 함양, 동료 간의 갈등을 경험하였다. 학습자들은 일부 부정적인 경험도 하였지만, 전반적으로 볼 때 상호동료튜터링 기반 학습동아리와 같은 건전한 학습문화는 교수 1인당 학생비율이 높고 강의중심의 수용적 학습이 주를 이루는 교과목의 교육현장에서 학습소외자를 최소화하고, 학습자가 중심이 되는 교수학습방법으로 활용될 수 있으리라 여겨진다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate undergraduates’ learning experiences in reciprocal peer tutoring(RPT)-based study groups in order to examine whether the study groups can be as a means of adding student interaction and cooperative learning environment to the weekly class activities that students can engage in. RPT is a learning strategy where students can experience learning by teaching and help one another promote their own learning in cooperative and social interaction settings. Participants’ perceptions and experiences on RPT-based study groups were examined mainly by in-depth interviews with three focus groups and each group member. In the aspects of learning, this study showed various advantages, such as improvement in understanding of learning contents and in English abilities, changes into their positive attitudes toward learning. However, findings also revealed several drawbacks associated with the concerns about inaccuracy in students’ production and considerable pressure from the assigned tasks. Free riders sometimes caused team members to lower their learning motivation. In terms of social experiences, the participants could build human networks and expand them based on their study groups. Plus, the RPT-based study group acted as a source of camaraderie and friendship by way of close interactions with other members. One downfall to such a class setting was that the learners felt stressed during the class activities when they were in trouble with their group members.
