영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore young renter hosueholds' perception toward homeownership and its determinants. Authorized microdata of the 2014 Korea Housing Survey was used as secondary data for this study. Total 1,856,617 renter households (weighted counts) headed by persons between 20 and 34 years of age living in private rental units were selected as study subjects. Data were analyzed utilizing a series of chi-square tests of independence and discriminant analyses. Major findings were as follows. (1) Among young renter households, 66.0% perceived achievement of homeownership important. (2) Based on univariate analyses, households headed by males, older persons or persons with high school diploma or lower educational attainments; with spouse, children, higher income or outstanding debt; and in non-capital regions tended to have a greater perception toward homeownership. Monthly renters without deposit showed the greatest perception toward homeownership.(3) Discriminant analysis results implied that a linear combination of household size, whether or not having spouse, children, outstanding debt, residential location, whether or not have used loans from financial institutions could explain 26.6% of variance in perceptions toward homeownership (67.0% prediction accuracy).
