영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the applicants' awareness of the factors involved in providing home-stay lodging and to examine the suitability of the applicants' homes as home-stay lodges The initial data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire which was mailed in October 2000. Further data was collected through focus interviews in February, 2001 from the applicants who applied to provide home-stay lodging. The results indicate that first, the applicants need to plan some programs to encourage foreign lodgers to return for future events. Second, some formal training course about providing for home-stay lodging is needed for the applicants in areas such as foreign languages, manners, service. Third, applicants' fluent in foreign languages other than English and Japanese should be encouraged because of the preponderance of English and Japanese speakers amongst the applicants. Fourth, Daegu city hall should provide some way to keep in contact even after the World Cup with families who lodge foreign visitors. Finally, to raise the international profile of Daegu city, City hall needs to provide formal training for applicant families and then to manage the applicants' performance.
