국문 초록

『풍우부』는 당송시기 저술된 기상예측에 관한 자료이다. 이 자료는 明代 여러 백과사전에 편입되면서 조선과 일본으로까지 전해져 내려왔다. 본래이 자료는 占術書의 성격을 갖는데, 그 용도는 전쟁에서의 승패를 예측하는 군사점의 지침서, 농업에서의 강우여부를 예측하는 기상관련 용도, 황실에서 어떤 행사의 날짜를 정하는데 유용한 지침서였다. 후대 군사점의 수요가 적어지면서 이 자료는 주로 농서에 편입되어 기상을 예측하는 자료로 이용되었다. 이 자료는 고대의 북경대학소장 『雨書』나 馬王堆에서 출토된『天文氣象雜占』등의 이전 기상관련 여러 점서들의 내용을 반영하고 있다. 구름을 통해 점을 치는데 구름의 형상, 색 뿐만 아니라, 오행성, 28수 등과의 관련도 포함되어 있다. 기상예측에서 오행사상을 활용한 흔적이 보이지만, 아직 『周易』의 사상을 반영하고 있지는 않다. 자연변화의 규율을 발견함으로 기상예측의 이론화 체계화를 시도한 것으로 평가된다. 그러나 아직 객관적 강우조건의 탐색보다는 주술적 강우를 강조한 성격이 강하다. 그럼 에도 암송하기 쉽게 시의 형식을 취하고 있기 때문에 널리 보급되었던 것같고, 후대 기후예측자료의 선구를 이루는 것이라 할 수 있다. 다양한 의미를 갖는 풍우라는 단어를 현대적 의미의 氣象이란 의미로 정착하게 하는데 기여한 것이다.

영문 초록

Fungwubu is a work of meteorology and weather prediction, written during the Tang Song periods (唐宋代). Incorporated into various encyclopedias of the Ming dynasty (明代), this material was passed down to Chosun(朝鮮) and Japan as well. The material originally takes on the characteristics of a handbook of divination, with uses in military divination for predicting victory or defeat in war, in meteorological divination for predicting rainfall with regard to agriculture, and in choosing felicitous dates for the royal house. Later, when the demand for military divinations decreased, the material was incorporated into agricultural tracts and was used mainly for weather prediction. The material reflects the contents of many earlier books on meteorological divination including Yushu (雨書), an ancient manuscript currently held at Beijing University, and Tianwenqixiangzazhan (天文氣象雜占), a work excavated from mawangtui (馬王堆). Regarding divination by clouds, the material deals with not only the clouds’ shape and color but also connections to the Five Elements(wu xing 五行) and the 28 lunar mansions(28宿). The work includes many signs of the Five Elements being employed in meteorological predictions, but it does not yet reflect the thought of Zhouyi (周易). The material is evaluated as having attempted a systematization of theories of meteorological prediction by discovering principles of natural change. However, it still stresses the magical side of rainfall rather than its objective conditions. Nevertheless, it seems to have been popular and widespread due to its easily recitable poetic form, and is one of the forebears of later meteorological prediction materials. Fungwubu contributes to settling the once various meanings of the word fungwu into the modern sense of ‘weather conditions’ (氣象).
