글로벌 시대 한국 역사학의 해체와 재구성

국문 초록

한국 역사학은 한국사 동양사 서양사의 3 분과 체제로 구성된다. 이 같은 3 분과 체제를 이식시킨 것은 일제 식민지배 권력이다. 따라서 식민사관으로부터 진정으로 탈피하기 위해서는 이 3 분과 체제를 해체하는 역사지식의 고고학을 통해 한국 역사학 체계를 재구성하려는 노력을 해야 한다. 일제 식민주의사관의 원류는 유럽중심주의다. 근대 역사학 자체가 유럽중심주의라는 기의를 내포하고 있는 ‘근대의 기호’로 만들어진 것이라면, 유럽중심주의 바깥에서 역사를 연구하고 서술한다는 것이 어떻게 가능할수 있는가? 이 같은 딜레마를 극복할 목적으로 차크라바르티는 ‘유럽의 지방화’의 방법론을 제시했다. ‘유럽의 지방화’란 유럽이라는 장소성을 부각시켜서 유럽중심주의를 해체하는 전략이다. 유럽중심주의가 근대라는 거대담론으로 비유럽이 가진‘공간의 차이’를 말살했다면, ‘유럽의 지방화’는 공간의 차이를 복원하는 ‘공간적 전회’를 시도한다. 문명의 소통과 교류는 공간적 차이를 전제로 한 번역으로 이뤄진다. 르고프는 “문명은 무엇보다도 시간과 공간을 어떻게 다스리느냐에 의해 정의된다.”고 말했다. 21세기 한국의 역사학은 글로벌 시대라는 시간과 다문화사회라는 공간을 다스릴 수 있는 문명의 새로운 문법을 만들어내야만 하는 과제를 갖고 있다. 대륙 문명과 해양 문명이 난류와 한류처럼 만나는 한반도는 더 이상 세계사의 가장자리가 아니라 문명의 어장으로 부상할 수 있는 문명사적 장소에 위치해 있다. 한반도 통일은 단절된 대륙문명과 해양문명을 통합한다는 의미를 가진다. 한반도 통일 시대를 맞이하여 오늘의 한국 역사학은 대륙과 해양 문명의 허브로서 한반도의 ‘공간정신’을 구현하는 한국사의 ‘공간적 전회’를 해야 한다. 이 같은 과업을 달성하기 위해선 한국 역사학은 먼저 식민사관 유산인 역사학 3 분과 체제부터 해체한 연후에, 문명의 교류와 융합을 주제로 해서 자국사와 세계사를 통합하여 재구성하는 황단적 역사 (traversal history)로서 ‘글로벌 한국사’ 모델을 개발해야 한다.

영문 초록

History as an academic discipline in Korea is based upon the three-compartment system: National History, Oriental History and Western History. Such a classification of the historical studies in Korea was done on the foundation of Japanese colonialist legacy. In order to move on from Japanese colonialism, the historical studies in Korea should deconstruct the existing three-compartment system and reconstruct the historical studies corresponding to the global age. The Japanese colonialist view originated from Euro-centrism. With this relation in mind, we can ask the question: “how would it be possible to study history without Euro-centrism, if modern history presents itself as the 'symbol of modernity' signified by Euro-centrism?” As a way to overcome this dilemma, Dipesh Chakrabarty has presented “Provincializing Europe”, which is a method to go beyond Euro-centrism. "Provincializing Europe" is a strategy for deconstructing Euro-centrism by emphasizing Europe's locality. If Euro-centrism has exterminated “the difference of space” through the Modern as a grand narrative, “Provincializing Europe” attempts a "spatial turn” to restore “the difference of space”. Communication and exchange between civilizations has been achieved by cultural translation based upon spatial difference. Le Goff said, “civilization is defined, above all, by how man governs time and space. In the 21st century, Koreans are facing the task of creating a new grammar of civilization that can govern the global age as well as the multi-cultural society. The Korean peninsula where continental civilization and maritime civilization intersect like warm currents and cold currents is no longer at the edge of civilization, but is located in the ideal historical place to become a fishery of world civilization. The reunification of Korea implies the integration of the divided continental civilization and maritime civilization. In the days of the upcoming reunification, Korean history should make a spatial turn that realizes the spatial spirit of the Korean Peninsula which is located at the hub of the continental civilization and maritime civilization. In order to accomplish this task, Korean historiography must, first of all, deconstruct the three-compartment system of history as a legacy of Japanese colonialism. Then, it must develop a 'Korean global history' model that traverses national history and world history in terms of the history of civilizational exchanges.
