국문 초록

한국사회에서 노인인구의 증가와 더불어 지난 몇 년간 노인자살자의 수와 그 자살율이 지속적으로 증가하고 있다는 사실은 노인의 삶의 질이라는 측면에서나 이와 관련되는 문제들이 유발하는 사회적 비용의 측면에서 중요한 노인 복지적 대안이 요구되는 반면, 이에 대한 관심과 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 사회학적 시각과 심리학적시각을 통합하는 일종의 사회심리학적 접근에 근거하여 노인자살의 이해를 도모하였다. 노인 자살생각에 영향을 미치는 인구학적, 사회적, 심리적 요인들을 파악할 목적으로 충남 천안지역에 거주하는 노인들을 대상으로 면접 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 사회통합변인(가족통합과 지역사회통합)과 교환자원변인(건강상태와 경제상태)은 공히 자살에 직접적인 영향보다는 우울증을 매개로 하여 자살에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 2) 자살변인에 직접적인 영향력을 끼치는 우울변인은 그 어느 요인보다도 노인의 자살변인에 가장 큰 위험요인으로 작용하고 있으며, 그 다음으로 경제상태, 가족통합, 건강상태, 지역사회종합 등의 순으로 파악되었다. 이 연구 결과에 따라 노인자살에 대한 이론적 및 정책적 제언을 몇 가지 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine major factors that affect Korean elder's suicidal thought. In the survey research, independent variables include socio-demographic factors(age, gender, education level; religion, marital status, living arrangement, general living standards), economic status, health status, family integration, community-based integration, and depression, The ultimate dependent variable is suicidal thought. To estimate the relative, effect of each of all the independent variables on the dependent variable(suicidal thought), a traditional path analysis is used on the suicidal variable, This analysis also helps us find the mechanism toward suicide. According to the findings of this study, depression affects the suicidal variable(suicidal thought) directly, On the meanwhile, the social integration variables(family integration & community-based integration) and the exchange resource variables(economic & health status) indirectly affect suicidal thought by influencing depression. Depression turns out to be the most crucial effect on Korean elder's suicidal thought. Economic status is the second strongest determinant of suicidal thought. The following next effects are family integration and health status in order. The least effect variable on the suicidal variable is the community integration variable. 'These findings contribute to extend understanding of elderly suicide, and suggest some suicide prevention programs for Korean elderly in terms of primary prevention and secondary prevention.
