인성의 의미와 인성교육의 방향에 대한 소고

국문 초록

본 연구는 인성의 중요성과 인성교육의 필요성이 한창 제기되고 있는 현 시점에서, 인성이 어떤 의미와 가치를 지니고 있는지를 두 가지 관점-동양의 사유체계에 입각한 인성론과 서양의 인성심리학-에서 고찰한 다음, 인성교육의 방향을 모색하기 위한 일환으로 양의 동서를 막론하고 근본적인 문제로 취급되어온 지식과 덕의 관련문제를 세 가지의 관점-지식 없는 덕, 덕 없는 지식, 덕 있는 지식-에서 논의하고 있다. 지식 없는 덕과 덕 없는 지식의 관점이 공통적으로 안고 있는 문제는 교과교육으로서의 인성교육의 성격과 활동을 왜곡할 위험성을 지니고 있다는 점이다. '덕 있는 지식'의 관점이 주는 시사점은, 생활로서의 인성교육과 교과교육으로서의 인성교육은 동전의 양면으로서 양자 간 미묘한 균형이 이루어져야 한다는 점 그리고 '사람이 곧 지식'인 사태가 여실하게 반영될 수 있도록 사고차원이 아닌 존재차원의 교육활동이 특별히 요청된다는 점이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to consider the meaning of character and the directions of character education in the present time due to the rising popularity and height in importance of character and the need of character education. For this purpose, this paper preferentially inquires about two perspectives about character, so called the oriental theories of character and personality psychology in western academia. Following on from this, as part of searching for the directions of character education, this paper inquires about three perspectives about the related problem of knowledge and virtue, so called 'virtue without knowledge', 'knowledge without virtue', 'knowledge with virtue'. According to the discussion of this paper, the common problem of the perspectives of 'virtue without knowledge' and 'knowledge without virtue' distorts the characteristics of activity of moral education as a school subject. On the other hand, the perspective of 'knowledge with virtue' provides the following implications. Firstly, it needs a subtle balance between character education as a convention and character education as a subject like the both sides of the coin. Secondly, it needs to do the instructional activities having the change of the level of existence not the change of the level of cognition/thought in character education as a subject.
