射琴匣說話와 新羅의 王權儀禮

국문 초록

본 논문은 신라시대에 시간적 기원을 두고 있는 ‘射琴匣’說話를 이해하기 위한 하나의 시도이다. 『삼국유사』의 사금갑설화는 왕의 목숨과 관련한 모종의 사건이 정월 여러 날에 삼가고 謹愼하다가 보름날에 쌀로 밥을 지어 까마귀를 제사하는 습속의 유래가 되었다고 설명하고 있다. 까마귀와 쥐, 돼지, 물속에서 나온 노인등이 등장하여 이야기를 구성하는 그 모종의 사건은 합리적으로 이해하여 재구성하기가 무척 힘들다. 그리고 그 사건이 왜 정월의 근신과 밥을 지어 까마귀를 제사하는 습속과 연관이 되는지도 이해하기 힘들다. 그런데 『삼국유사』와는 또 다른 조선시대의 사금갑설화 전승에 의하면 왕의 목숨과 관련된 사건에서 까마귀의 역할이 강조되고 그로 인해 근신하고 까마귀에게 밥을 먹이는 정월 습속이 생겼다고 이야기하고 있다. 정월의 근신과 ‘까마귀밥 먹이기’ 습속은 新年에 행해졌던 생명력의 갱신과 풍요를 기원하는 종교적 의례의 전통을 기반으로 한 것으로 여겨진다. 이러한 민간의 종교의례 전통을 바탕으로 해서 신라 왕실에서도 해마다 始祖王의 제사를 통해 왕의 생명력을 갱신하고 그럼으로써 국토의 안녕과 풍요를 기원하여 왕권의 정당성과 안정성을 종교신앙적으로 보장받으려는 여러 의례들을 거행하였다. 이러한 흔적이 『삼국유사』 사금갑설화에 나오는 까마귀와 쥐, 돼지의 싸움에 관한 이야기와 물속에서 나온 노인이 왕의 생명을 구해준다는 이야기가 합해져서 복잡한 구성을 가지는 설화로 전승되게 되었던 것이라 여겨진다.

영문 초록

This study is to make an attempt to understand the tale, ‘Shoot the Geomungo (a Korean musical instrument that is six-stringed) Case’, originated from the Silla dynasty. The tale written in 『Samgukyusa(Overlooked Historical Records of the Three Korean Kingdoms)』 deals with an assassination of a King, which has reportedly led to the custom of trying to behave themselves during New Year holidays and sacrificing rice to crows on January 15. Realistically, it is difficult to understand the story made up of a crow, a rat, a pig and an old man who lives in the water, by extension, to understand why the above-mentioned custom has been originated from the story. Meanwhile, in the story during the Joseon dynasty, the crow took a more important role in connection with the King’s life ; the custom of trying to behave themselves and feeding crows has been passed down from it. The custom is presumed to be based on the religious rite to pray for the renewal and prosperity of life. Such a rite had been conducted even in the royal family during the Silla dynasty. They sacrificed to their founder every year and prayed for kings’ longevity, national peace and prosperity and stable and powerful royal authority. By the influence of the tradition, the story about the crow, the rat and the fight among the pig might be mixed with the story about an old man who appeared from the water and saved the king. In result, such stories were supposed to be passed down and to give rise to the complex tale.
