「陶山十二曲」에 나타난 시적 표현의 특징

국문 초록

본고는 「도산십이곡」의 은유와 운율을 중심으로 시적 표현의 특징을 살펴본 글이다. 은유의 경우, 당시 관습적으로 사용되었던 한자성어가 나타나는데 이는 작가만의 창의적 표현이거나 새로운 인식을 주는 비유는 아니었다. 퇴계에게 시 창작은 ‘志’을 전하기 위한 방법이었으며, 따라서 시 창작에 있어서 새롭고 독창적인 표현을 찾는 ‘세련’에 중점을 두기보다는 사람들에게 익숙한 표현을 사용하여 그 뜻을 쉽게 전달하는 데 중점을 둔 것이 아닌가 추측하여 보았다. 운율의 경우, 「도산십이곡발」에서 밝힌 대로, 우리말의 음절을 고려하겠다는 의도가 작품에 드러났다. 소리글자인 우리말만의 특성을 살렸는데, 동일한 단어 사용, 동일 구문의 사용, 음소의 통일 등에서 우리말의 운을 고려하였음을 알 수 있었다. 「도산십이곡」의 시적 표현의 특징인 은유와 은율은 작가의 창작 의도와도 관련이 있음을 알 수 있다. 퇴계가 의도한 바대로 ‘온유돈후’한 교훈을 전하기 위해 한자성어 은유의 뜻을 살려 사용했으며, 노래로 불릴 때의 흥을 고려하여 운율을 살린 것이 아닌가 짐작하여 보았다. 고전문학 작품을 읽는 것은 당대의 언어를 체험하는 것이다. 즉, 「도산십이곡」에 쓰인 한자성어 은유를 통해 창작 당시 표현의 관습을 익힐 수 있고, 「도산십이곡」을 소리 내어 읽어 보면서 소리글자에 대한 감각을 살린 창작이라는 것을 생각해 볼 수도 있다. 문학작품을 읽으면서 작품에 사용된 언어를 체험하고 언어 감각을 익히는 것은 고전문학 작품을 읽을 때에도 염두에 두어야 할 가치라는 것을 생각할 때, 「도산십이곡」에 나타난 시적 표현인 은유와 은율에 대하여 보다 관심을 기울일 필요가 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This article is focused on the metaphor and rhythm of 「Tosan 12 songs」(Tosan Sibigok) written by LeeHwang. The metaphors of 「To san 12 songs」 are not unique and creative. They are conventional idiomatic phrases of Chinese character. But these stereotypical expressions are somewhat related with the poet’s intention. LeeHwnag wrote the preface of this poem and in that, he criticized that day’s popular songs peaple usually sang. He worte this poem to express his thoughts, especially about attitude of life and moral, and he hoped that people sing and learn good thoughts from this poem. In 「Tosan 12 songs」, the rhythms are existed. In the preface, LeeHwang wrote that he would use Koearn words and so people could easily learn and sing good poems. In 「Tosan 12 songs」, Korean words are used rhythmically. He tried to use Korean language’s rhyme. He used similar words, similar phrases and similar phonemes. It must be related with his intention to use Korean languages unique rhythm. He might make an effort to use Korean phonetic features. One of the important aim to read classic poems is to experience that days language uasge. People can understand LeeHwang’s thoughts and Chosun gentry’s thoughts. through reading 「Tosan 12 songs」 and experiencing that language usages. 「Tosan 12 songs」 is a good poem in the point of the poetic expression especially the metaphors and rhythms. And the metaphors and rhythms are related the poet’s intention that he expressed in the preface of 「Tosan 12 songs」.
