시각문화미술교육에서 외연과 내포 개념을 통한 이미지 해석력 교육

국문 초록

학습은 조직적이고 의도된 학습상황에서 뿐만 아니라 그 밖의 일상적인 상황에서도 이루어진다. 우리의 일상생활과 밀접한 관계에 있는 시각문화는 우리의 가치관, 정체성, 삶의 방식, 행동 등에 영향을 준다. 많은 미술 교육자들이 시각문화미술교육의 필요성에 대해서는 공감하고 있지만 구체적인 지도 방안이 충분히 제시되지 않아 많은 시각문화미술교육 프로그램이 광고나 상품 포장지 등을 보여주고 광고의 뜻을 묻는 수준에서 그치고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 롤랑 바르트의 외연과 내포의 개념을 통해 시각문화를 분석적이고 비판적으로 해석하는 방법을 지도할 수 있음을 제시하였다. 또 시카고 미술 대학의 수업과 가족사진, 상품, 여행 기념품을 사용한 시각문화미술교육 방법을 예로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Many people may associate learning with a school. However, learning is, also, happened in social context. In other words, learning is happened in the condition of our daily life. Our daily life is influenced a lot by popular culture. Understanding popular culture, in here visual culture, is important because it affects to our consciousness and behavior. In art education, the importance and necessity of teaching how to interpret visual culture is well acknowledged well. However, many teachers still have difficulty to educate students about visual culture. Roland Barthers' concept about denotation and connotation makes us to be aware that an image contains two levels of meaning. Denotation of an image is as it is shown. Connotation is the hidden meanings in the image. By studying the concept of denotation and connotation, students will be able to interpret visual culture in depth. Also, a graduate class in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Duncum's suggestion of using family photos, commodities, and souvenir for visual culture art education are presented as examples.
