하벨의 최신작 「떠나가기」의 작품 분석과 프라하 극단과 아르하 극장 소고

국문 초록

하벨은 체코 현대문학 부조리 희곡(Absurd Drama) 분야에서 독보적인 위치를 점하고 있다. 그의 희곡 작품은 광범위한 철학적 의미를 띄고 있으며, 현실 정치와 인생의 부조리를 풍자적인 시각으로 묘사하고 있다. 더불어 이오네스코가 후기 작품에서 추구한 언어만의 문제를 능가하고 있으며 세계 희곡 사에서 두드러진 자리를 차지하고 있다. 하벨의 최신 작품 「떠나가기」는 2008년 체코 프라하의 아르하(Archa) 극장, 브르노의 민족 극장, 브라티슬라바의 민족 극장, 그리고 영국과 미국 등지에서 공연되어 호평을 받았다. 연극 중간에 미리 녹음된 저자의 육성 ‘목소리’가 주인공들에게 과장되게 연기하지 말라고 요청하는 등 연출에 직접 개입함으로써 관객들에게 신선한 웃음을 선사한다. 서울 LG 아트센터에서 공연된 작품은 다비드 라독이 연출한 작품으로 프라하 아르하 극장에서의 연출과 무대 장치와 거의 비슷하다. 이 작품에는 저자의 의도적이고 비극적이며 회의적인 장면들이 많지만, 반면 우스꽝스러운 장면들도 곳곳에 있어 전체적으로 익살스러운 희비극이라 할 수 있다. 작가의 언급처럼 다른 희곡 작품들의 모티브, 즉 체홉의「벗 나무 동산」에서의 떠나감, 셰익스피어의「리어왕」에서의 권력상실이라는 테마를 알고 있으면 이 희곡의 진정한 묘미를 느낄 수 있다. 프라하 아르하 극장은 1994년부터 세계의 다양한 레퍼토리로 실험적인 극과 각종 예술 공연을 하고 있는 체코에서 가장 진보적인 극장들 가운데 속한다. 우여곡절 끝에 하벨의 이 작품이 여기서 공연된 것은 청각적으로 시각적으로 넓은 공간을 필요로 하는 희곡의 성격상 잘 조화되었다.

영문 초록

Havel holds an unrivaled position in the field of Absurd Drama in Czech modern literature. Havel's works embraces a wide scope of philosophical meaning and satirizes present day politics. He surpasses the ‘Problem of Language’ which Ionesco strived for in his latter works and accentuates himself as a significant figure in world play history. In 2008 his latest work, The Leaving, was performed at the Archa theater in Prague and the National theaters in Brno and Bratislava, along with theaters in the U.K. and the U.S. and received esteemed praise. During the play the prerecorded voice of the playwright Havel is played which directly interacts with the actors on stage. For example, at one point of the play Havel's voice tells the actors to stop overacting which provides the audience with a newfound and noble amusement. The play was also performed at the LG Art Center in Seoul, directed by David Radok, it was presented in almost the same way as it was performed at the Archa Theater using similar directing and stage settings. Though this work has many tragic and skeptic scenes which was the author's intention, there were also many humorous scenes so it could also be considered a very comical play. Viewers already familiar with the motif of departure in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and the motif of the loss of power in Shakespeare's King Lear will have a better understanding of the true meaning of this play. The Prague Archa theater is considered one of the most prominent in the Czech republic and is well known for holding experimental performances from around the world since 1994.
