영문 초록

During the period of cold war, the ’East-Europe' had been considered as a simple politico-ideological unity. But this 'East-Europe’including Balkan peninsula has not only historical identity but alos cultural identity. East-european and Balkan area represents une zone de conflict, since this area is the chessboard on which the struggle for european primacy continues to be played, and that involves geostrategy - the strategic management of geopolitical interests. From geopolitical viewpoint, this area is both buffer zone and strategic front. So, to understand exactly the historical character of east european and balkan conflicts, we should examine the history of geopolitical studies as well as the political and cultural history of this zone. The examination of the development of geopolitical studies is so important that it has influenced 때n foreign policies of great powers like Great Britain, and USA.
