영문 초록

The author of this study presents data concerning the history of Romanian theatre from its inception in the last decade of the seventeenth century until the end of the nineteenth century when the national stageworthy repertory was founded by Romanian playwrights Vasile Alecsandri and Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, beginning the modern period. In the first period, some academic dramas or classicaldramas were performed in Romanian on improvised stages by foreign companies or dilettante actors, professors, and high-school students. After 1821, the Romanian theatrical activity became well-organised and more professional. During the years 1821-1838, Ion Heliade Radulescu, Ion Cfunpineanu, Gheorghe Asachi, G. Baritiu， Romanian writers and professors, established at Bucharest, Brasov, Blaj and ]assy music and art academies such as Societatea Literara, Societatea Filarmonica, Conseroatorul Filo-Dramatic, Societatea dramatica, etc. In the nineteenth century, the most important modem Romanian playwrights were Vasile Alecsandri and Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu. Vasile Alecsandri (1818?-1890), known also as a great poet, wrote many comedies of manners (Farmazonul din HarLau, Iorgu de La Sadagura, Iasii in carnaval， Zgarcitul risipitor, Rusaliile, Sanziana si PepeLea, Chirita in Iasi, Chirita în provincie etc.), one-act playes (Mama AngheLusa doftoroaie, Sandu Napoila ultra-retrogradul, CLevetici ultra- deoagogul) , and classical dramas (Despot-Voda, Fantana BLanduziei, Ovidiu). Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu 0838-1907), a great Romanian scientist, also wrote some historical drama (Domnita Rosanda, Rãposatul postelnic, Rãzvan si Vidra), and satirical comedies (Trei mirese si trei miri, Trei crai de La Rasarit). Razvan si Vidra, which at the same time is both a historical tragedy and a psychological drama, is a masterpiece of early Romanian modern theatre.
