The most important character in the literature of the baroque period in Hungary is that the people had emerged as leaders of the literature. Since then the Hungarian literature had carried the vivid lives of the people in the street and had expressed the joy and anger with sorrow and pleasure. The people, in reality, had been leading actors in the history of the Hungarian literature, and the literature had been a source to create a new epoch and paradigm. It meant that the Hungarian literature finally went beyond the simple enjoyment of the aristocratic class or the nobilities. To be concrete, the literature of the baroque period in Hungary can be classified as two category according to its leaders. In the first period of the baroque period, the aristocratic class had initiative to lead the literature. Still then, the thought of the Church was the main stream and idea of the Literature. Mikl6s Zrinyi, for example, was representative of the first period. Although he wrote the sweet love in the battlefield against the Turkish army, his great work was "The defeat of the
Castle Szigeti(Szigeti veszedelem)". The masterpiece was made of the nonfiction that his great-grand father had fought against Turkey and fought a good battIe with his death. The Hungarian baroque literature in the latter period had begun with the recordings of the folk songs and ballads informed by word of mouth or handed down orally. The lives and sprits of the people had been melted in the literature. It is needless to say the literure became the popular song of the people. In this period, Hungary stood face to face against the Habsburgs. Then the Hungarian peasants roused themselves to form the army called Kuruc. When the Kuruc army fought, they sang a songs. These songs were called the kuruc irodalom. With the appearance and the spreading of the Kuruc Literature, the Hungarian literature had approached to the people. Rakoczi Ferenc 2nd was the
very model writer in this period who had been the leader of the Kuruc army.
