국문 초록

작가 이청준의 문학작품을 대하면 대개가 읽는 이로 하여금 자신의 실존적 삶의 내면을 들여다보는 듯 하는 중압감을 느끼게 한다. 그만큼 그는 글쓰기를 통하여 인간의 존재적 의미와 가치를 진지하게 묻고 있다. 그는 아마도 문학창작을 인간의 자유의지의 해방을 위한 작가의 숙명으로 받아들이고 있는 듯하다. 이청준은 다른 많은 작품들에서 작가와 글쓰기에 대해 다루고 있거니와, 「소문의 벽」에서도 그러한 주제를 다루고 있다. 「소문의 벽」에서 작중의 작가는 어릴 때 6․25전란을 겪으면서 ‘전짓불’의 공포를 체험하며, 또 작가로 글을 쓰면서 사회적인 억압에 의하여 진술공포증에 걸린다. 이로 하여 이 소설이 특정 시대 지배 이데올로기와 권력의 폭력성을 고발하고 있다고 보기도 한다. 그러나 화자를 ‘나’로 확인하고, 작중의 작가, ‘나’, 그리고 실제작가 이청준을 글쓰기와 진술공포증이라는 동일층위에서 복수로 묶이는 자유의지의 ‘주체’로 볼 때, 소설의 의미는 보다 보편적인 인간문제로 확장된다. 이 작품에서 ‘전짓불’이 제도적인 억압이나 권력적인 폭력이라면, ‘소문의 벽’은 그것을 익명화하고 지식․기술화하는 사회적인 폭력인 것이다. 따라서 작가의 욕망도 다만 특정시대의 권력과 이데올로기에 의해서만 억압당하는 것이 아니므로, 근본적으로는 ‘소문의 벽’을 쌓는 사회적인 폭력과의 대결 속에서 실현해야만 하는 것이다. 이러한 의미 확장에 의하여 ‘소문의 벽’이 특정한 시대의 특정한 주인담론만을 의미하지 않고, 주체와 타자, 욕망과 사회라는 인간의 근본적인 존재방식을 보여주는 것이라고 할 때, 그것과의 충돌은 훨씬 보편적이고 시대초월적인 의미를 나타낸다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 작가의 숙명은 때로 직접 ‘전짓불’을 받으면서 끊임없이 ‘소문의 벽’을 허무는 것이라면, 작가 이청준은 글쓰기를 특정한 시대를 초월하여 현실의 존재론적인 인식가치를 확인하려는 문학의 리얼리즘정신에서 출발하고 있다고 해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Give oppressive feeling that outline seems to look in inside of life own existence enemy by this to read if treat Lee cheong-jun’s literary productions. He is asking meaning and value seriously human’s existence through writing so much. He is seeming to receive literature novel as writer’s fate for release of human’s freedom perhaps. Lee cheong-jun is speaking about writing with writer in other many works as 『Wall of Rumor』. Writer who appear in this work experiences fear about ‘Flashlight light’ through 6․25 wars childhood. Also, as being written being writer, fall in statement morbid fear by social suppression. In this way, this work is prosecuting control ideology and violence department of power specification age. But, writer ‘I’ and actuality writer Lee cheong-jun that appear in work can prescribe them as freedom will’s ‘Subject’ through work to write and statement morbid fear. In the present case, meaning of novel is extended to more universal human problem. If ‘Flashlight light’ is institution suppression or violence of power in this work, ‘wall of rumor’ means social violence that change it by anonymousness and knowledge or skill. Therefore, writer’s desire is not oppressed by power and ideology of specification age, therefore must realize through confrontation with social violence that ‘wall of rumor’ is hand- me-down fundamentally. Through these meaning extension,『Wall of Rumor』 does not mean specification discourse of only specification age. When speak that is that show fundamental existence way of human who this work is ‘subject’ and ‘the other’, desire and society, collision with it can display meaning that is much more universal and transcend age. That pull down ‘wall of rumor’ as receiving ‘Flashlight light’ constantly writer of if is fated Lee cheong-jun’s work in realism mind to transcend particular age and confirm cognition value of actual ontology start.
