사이버 소설의 환상성과 한국 서사의 전통

국문 초록

지금까지 문학 행위와 소통의 장에 대한 논의는 주로 사이버문학 쪽과 고전문학, 현대문학 세 영역에서 이렇게 별개로 진행되어 왔다. 독자의 반응에 따라 작품의 인기도와 수명, 유사한 갈래 작품의 지속적 생산이 결정되며, 도서 대여점이라는 한국적인 독특한 체제에 따라 문학 작품의 소통이 매개된다는 점이 17～8세기와 현대의 사이버 세대가 공유하고 있는 공통점이다. 소설사라는 관점에서, 고소설, 전통적 서사와 사이버 소설의 연맥을 위해 우리는 ‘당대’의 ‘대중성’과 대중성에 기반한 소통구조에 주목해야 한다. 이는 사이버 문학에서 전대의 고소설로, 그리고 구비문학으로 이어지는 연계성의 흐름을 의미하는 것이다. 이를 확인하기 위해 우선 신화에서 발원한 영웅의 일대기 신화와 고소설의 군담소설류, 그리고 현대의 사이버 무협소설로 이어지는 한 갈래를 살펴보았다. 두 번째로 문학의 영원한 주제인 남녀의 애정 모티프가 전설이라는 비극적 설화 형태에서 고소설의 행복한 결말로, 그리고 인터넷의 로맨스 소설로 이어지는 맥락을 짚어보았다. 마지막으로는 현실에서 출발하여 환상적인 유토피아를 꿈꾸는 환상성의 모티프가 민담에서 전기문학으로 그리고 사이버 판타지 소설로 가는 흐름을 확인하였다. 10대 청소년들이 고소설을 모르는 상태에서 판타지 소설을 창작해도 길동이가 꿈꾸었던 ‘율도국’ 공간과 같은 유토피아를 구현해낸다는 것은 바로 우리의 문화가 보여주는 환상성과 타자성의 보편화를 의미한다. 그리고 이와 같은 사회적 현상, 문학행위의 이면에는 면면히 이어온 문학적 상상력의 현상학적 편향성이 내재되어 있다. 그리고 이 편향성이 이토록 줄기차게 문학 작품 안에 구현될 수 있었던 이유는 민중의 저변에 뿌리내린 일상성과 대중성의 힘이라는 것을 외면할 수 없을 것이다.

영문 초록

The discussions on the place of the literature activities and communications until now have mainly focused on 3 spheres: cyber literature, classical literature and modern literature, each taking a different route. The popularity and longevity of novels and a continuous creation in the similar classification are decided by the response of their readers. That the communication of literary works is mediated by the Korea’s unique system of “book rental stores”is a characteristic which the 17th～18 centuries and the modern cyber generation have in common. From the perspective of the history of novels, we need to focus on the “contemporary popularity” and the communication structure based on “popularity” in order to link to ancient novels, the traditional narratives an cyber novels, which means the flow of the linkage by which is connects to ancient novels in the previous times from cyber literature and to oral literature from ancient novels in the previous times. In order to identity it, first of all, I examined a classification of novels, which connects to the mythological novels which depicted the life story of the heroes, which were originated from a myth, hero novels in ancient times or something like and the cyber chivalrous novels in the modern 20～21centuries. Secondly, I examined the context of the novels whose motif is the love between a man and a woman, the eternal theme of literature, are connected to the tragic novels in a narrative style, the happy- ending ancient novels and the romance novels on the internet. Lastly, I explored into the flow of the novels, whose underlying motif is the dreaming of a fantastic utopia starting the reality, that is, a motif of the fantastics, are connected to folktales, biographic literature and cyber fantasy novels. Under the situation which the young people in their teens are unaware of the ancient novels, even though someone created a fantasy novel, that the realization of the utopia like a space of the “Yuldoguk,” or state which Hong Gil-dong dreamed of means the universalization of the fantastics and the otherness which our culture shows. At the back of this social phenomenon and literal activities, the phenomenological bias of the literary imagination which is ceaselessly inherited is immanent. The reason why the bias is incessantly embodied in the novels like this lies with the power of the ordinary life and popularity which has been rooted in the base of the populace.
