재량활동 학습을 위한 총체적ㆍ경험적 영어 프로그램의 실제

국문 초록

  제7차 수준별 교육 과정은 학생들의 능력에 맞춘 수준별 학습뿐 만 아니라 교과서에 포함 되어 있지 않은 내용 중 지역사회, 학교, 학생들의 특징을 살려서 교사의 재량으로 다양한 학습 활동을 할 수 있도록 명시하고 있다. 그러나 현장 교사들은 이러한 획기적인 학습활동에 익숙지 않아서 가르쳐야 할 내용과 방법을 모색 하는데 어려움을 겪고 있다. 본 연구는 이론적인 제안보다는 실제로 교사들이 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 영어 학습 활동을 학예 발표회를 통하여 제시해 보고자 한다. 영어 발표는 총체적, 경험적 언어 학습 접근법을 활용하고 학생들의 수준에 맞추어서 발표 내용을 조절 하며, 학급 내에서는 친구끼리 돕고 도움을 받는 짝도우미(Buddy system tutors)를 통하여 연습할 수 있다. 발표할 내용에는 ①초청장 영어로 쓰기, ②발표 휴식시간에 필요한 과자를 영어 요리법을 익혀서 만들고, 영어 표현을 사용하면서 과자를 권해 보기, ③합창 및 합창낭독(Choral reading), 단막극 등을 발표 한 후 경험 학습의 접근법을 활용하여 학생들이 발표에서 체험한 것을 교사와 함께 읽기 자료로 만드는 내용까지 포함한다.

영문 초록

  The seventh national curriculum focuses on teaching students of different abilities separately and suggests providing optional activities, especially activities for students in special environments such as remote farming or fishing villages.
  Unfortunately, while the additional freedom on teaching material is welcomed by teachers, many of them aren"t familiar with the new curriculum and what to teach or how to teach it. There have been many theoretical researches on this, but little material to help teachers in real life.
  This paper stays away from the theories, and provides ideas through a concrete program that could be used by students in the first grade in middle school. The program developed in this paper is based on the whole language approach, integrating the four language skills. Students learn the target language by experiencing different situations. The program designed here presents a special performance for the students" parents and friends, and includes learning how to write an invitation card, baking cookies using a recipe in English, singing songs in English, having a choral reading and putting together a skit in English.
  The program also was designed so that the teacher can adapt it to students with different skill levels. Finally the teacher and the students together can develop a reading material based on the performing experience which is the fruit of experienced language teaching approach.
