국문 초록

이 논문은 현대인의 일반적 권위 인식에 대한 피터즈의 분석을 자세히 검토한다. 이 논문은 다음 네 가지의 논의를 차례로 다루고 있다. 첫째, 이 논문은 피터즈가 권위의 의미 구조를 비인격적 의미 요소와 인격적 의미 요소 두 가지의 결합으로 파악하고 있음을 설명한다. 둘째, 이 논문은 현대로 올수록 사람들의 권위 인식이 그것의 인격적 의미 요소보다 비인격적 의미 요소에 훨씬 더 큰 중요성을 부여하는 형태로 그 구조가 변하였다고 말하는 피터즈의 분석을 자세히 검토한다. 셋째, 이 논문은 피터즈가 사람들의 권위 인식이 이렇게 변하게 된 것의 근본 원인을 근대 계몽주의의 확산에서 찾고 있음을 자세히 소개한다. 넷째, 이 논문은 사회적 권위의 공백에 따른 불가피한 결과로 오늘날 몇 가지 극단적 사회 현상이 발생하고 있다고 보는 피터즈의 사회 진단을 자세히 검토한다. 이런 내용으로 이루어져 있는 피터즈의 권위론은 현대 사회가 안고 있는 내적 취약성과 그것에서 파생되는 실제적 위험성을 심층적으로 이해할 수 있는 한 가지 유용한 관점을 제공해 준다.

영문 초록

This study examines Peters’s analysis of authority in modern society. The discussion comprises four main parts. First, it explicates his conception of authority’s structure as a combination of two elements: impersonal and personal aspects. Second, it investigates his analysis of how modern people’s perception of authority has fundamentally shifted. Third, it explores Peters’s argument that identifies the spread of Enlightenment thinking as the root cause of this transformed conception of authority. Fourth, it examines his diagnosis that certain contemporary social phenomena emerge as inevitable consequences of the vacuum in social authority. Peters’s theoretical framework provides a valuable perspective for understanding the internal vulnerabilities of modern society and their practical implications. His analysis offers profound insights into the structural weaknesses inherent in contemporary social systems and their potentially dangerous consequences.
