남한지역 세형동검문화의 형성 과정

국문 초록

남한지역의 세형동검문화는 정가와자유형 등의 요령지역 물질문화 요소들이 토착문화 속에 단계별로 복합되고 지역별로 변용되어 형성되었으며, 이 과정에서 중원계통 동검문화의 자극으로 더욱 다양해졌다고 할 수 있다. 이는 청동 장인 등의 이주, 문화접변 등을 포함하는 지역 간의 연속적인 상호작용을 거친 문화변동의 결과이다. 세형동검문화의 형성 과정은 대략 기원전 4세기대 중엽경을 전후하여 단계별로 구분된다. 1단계는 정가와자유형의 북한지역 확산 및 남한지역 재지화로 이어지는 시기이다. 점토대토기문화와 관련되는 주거·무덤 및 토기문화가 확산되기 시작한다. 2단계는 세형동검문화의 청동유물들이 남한 서부지역에서 등장하여 점차 복합되는 시기이다. 이때부터 초기 세형동검에서 전형 세형동검(괴정동식)으로 전환되며, 구획문계 다뉴동경, 이형동기 등도 조합되기 시작한다. 한편 초기 세형동검 단계부터 입주부십자형 석제검파두식이나 선형동부 등의 토착계통 문화 요소들이 조합되며, 이후 전형 세형동검 단계에는 ‘구분연마’ 기법, 동사 등의 중원계통 문화 요소들이 일부 추가된다. 그러므로 남한지역의 세형동검문화는 토착문화와 외래문화의 기술적·문화적 복합 과정을 거치면서 정착되었음을 알 수 있다. 여기에는 외래 청동장인 및 수장층의 전략 등이 주요하게 작용하였다고 생각된다. 세형동검문화의 형성 과정은 고조선계 이주민의 호서지역 토착민에 대한 일방적인 구축 관계라기보다 환황해권을 둘러싸는 상호작용의 네트워크를 통해 토착사회에서 정치체가 등장하는 능동적인 사회 변혁 과정으로 볼 수 있다. 이후 세형동검문화의 발전 과정에서 기술·이념 등의 정체성을 공유하는 역사·문화 공동체가 증폭됨에 따라 마한사회의 물적 기반이 갖추어졌다고 생각된다.

영문 초록

The Slender Bronze Dagger Culture of Southern Korea was formed as the elements of the material culture from the Liaoning area of China, such as the Zhengjiawazi assemblage, blended together with the indigenous culture in stages, and changed by region through acculturation. During this process, the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture became more diverse as it was stimulated by the Zhongyuan-style Bronze Dagger Culture. This phenomenon results from cultural changes through continual interactions with surrounding regions, including the migration of master bronze craftsmen. The formation process of the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture can be divided into two stages in the mid-4th century B.C. The first stage is the period associated with the spread and indigenization of the Zhengjiawazi Assemblage in Northern Korea. The second stage is the period when the bronze artifacts of the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture took root around Southern Korea. On the other hand, the elements of indigenous culture, such as the upright column-type dagger pommel fittings of the stone and fan-shaped bronze axe, were combined from the early Slender Bronze Dagger Culture stage. The elements of the Zhongyuan-style Bronze Dagger Culture, such as the section polishing technique and bronze graver, were added in the typical Slender Bronze Dagger Culture stage. The Slender Bronze Dagger Culture in Southern Korea was established through a process of blending technologies and cultures. The formation process of the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture can be viewed as an active social transformation process where a polity emerges from the indigenous society through the network of interactions surrounding the Pan-Yellow Sea region rather than through a unilateral relationship between immigrants and the indigenous people. In the development process of the Slender Bronze Dagger Culture, the material foundation of Mahan society is thought to have been established.
