국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 결혼이주여성들이 다문화교육 실천을 통해 다문화역량을 증진함으로써 교육의 주체가 되어가는 과정을 분석하는 것이다. 이로써 한국 사회에 필요한 대안적 다문화교육은 어떠한 방식으로 가능할지 모색하고자 한다. 이에 본 연구는 결혼이주여성 강사 10명을 대상으로 수업 참여관찰과 심층인터뷰를 함으로써 이들이 한국의 지배담론에 맞서 어떻게 갈등을 극복하며 주체성을 형성해 가는지 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 첫째, 결혼이주여성들은 문화다양성과 인권인식에 기반하며 협소한 다문화 개념을 재해석하고 문화번역능력을 통해 단순한 지식습득을 넘어 실천을 강조하는 다문화교육을 수행한다. 둘째, 결혼이주여성 당사자 관점의 다문화교육 커리큘럼은 공사영역의 해체를 핵심 내용으로 하며, 젠더, 계급성, 에스니시티 등을 규합해내는 교차성의 지식 체계를 구성함으로써 차별의 당사자로서 대안적 사회를 지향하는 변형적 지식을 구축해낼 가능성을 보여준다. 셋째, 다문화교육을 실천하는 결혼이주여성 강사들의 다문화적 변환과정은 성취와 실패, 정체와 극복 등 복잡성을 띤다. 이는 대안적 다문화교육을 지속하기 위해 보다 장기적 관점의 지원 및 공동체를 근간으로 한 시민사회 혹은 지역사회와의 결합이 중요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the process of marriage-migrant women becoming independent by promoting multicultural competency through practice of multicultural education. This study aims to seek a solution as an alternative multicultural education needed in Korean society. Therefore, this study conducted participant observation and in-depth interviews with 10 marriage-migrant women teachers. By using these methods, it examined how the women overcame conflict and established their independence against the discourses dominant in Korea. The results of this study are as follows. First, marriage-migrant women reinterpreted the currently narrow concept of multiculturalism based on the cultural diversity and human rights awareness and conducted the education emphasizing practice over simple acquisition of knowledge through the ability of cultural translation. Second, such multicultural education curriculum in the perspective of the migrant women themselves required dissolution of public and private spheres as the core. Also, as they built a transverse knowledge system that brings together genders, classes, and ethnicities, they as discriminated ones themselves showed potential to create an adaptive idea for an alternative society. Third, The process of multicultural transformation of marriage-migrant women teachers practicing multicultural education was complicated. This suggests that it is important to support the multicultural education from the long-term perspective and to cooperate between the migrant self-help community and the civil society or the regional community.
