국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 초등학생의 임원활동 참여가 고등학생의 시민의식에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법: 경기교육종단연구 자료 중 초4패널 제3차년도(초등학교 6학년)와 제9차년도(고등학교 3학년) 자료를 활용하였다. 초 6시기 임원활동에 참여한 집단은 참여하지 않은 집단에 비해 집단 간의 사전적 특성이 일부 달라 성향점수 방법을 적용하였다. 성향점수 산출을 위해 임원활동 참여 여부를 종속변수, 공변인을 독립변수로 한 이항 로지스틱 모형을 활용하였다. 산출된 성향점수는 처치역확률 가중치(IPTW) 방법을 적용해 임원활동 참여 여부 간 균형성을 확보한 후 비모수통계 방법을 사용해 전체집단 대상 평균 처치 효과를 추정하였다. 연구결과: 성향점수 방법을 통해 집단 간 동등성을 확보한 후 초등학생의 임원활동 참여가 고등학생의 시민의식에 미치는 효과를 분석한 결과, 성향점수 가중기법을 적용한 후에 초등학생의 임원활동 참여가 고등학생의 시민의식에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 초등학생의 임원활동이 고등학생의 시민의식에 지니는 인과효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 임원활동은 민주시민성을 함양시키는 데 있어 교육적 의미가 크지만 포괄적이고 보편적인 시민의식의 개념에 비해 임원활동은 개인 특수적 경험일 수 있다. 활발한 의견수렴과 타협이 생활화되고 학생들의 참여활동이 충분히 활성화되어 있어야 임원활동의 교육적 가치가 더욱 커질 수 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of elementary school students' participation in class/school representative activities on their high school students' citizenship. Method: The 3rd year (6th grade of elementary school) and 9th year (3rd grade of high school) of the 4th grade panel among the Gyeonggi Education Longitudinal Study data were used. The propensity score weighting method was applied because some of the prior characteristics were different between the groups compared to the non-participating group. To calculate the propensity score, a binary logistic model with participation or not in class/school representative activities as the dependent variable and covariate as the independent variable was used. For the calculated propensity score, the inverse probability of treatment weight (IPTW) method was applied to ensure a balance between participation in class/school representative activities, and then the average treatment effect for the whole group was estimated using a non-parametric statistical method. Results: After ensuring equality between the groups using the propensity score method, the elementary school students' participation in class/school representative activities appeared to have an effect on the high school students' citizenship. Conclusion: The casual effect of elementary school students' the representative activities on high school students' citizenship could be confirmed. The educational value of the representative activities can be increased only when active opinion-forming and compromise become part of life and when students' participation activities are fully activated.
