유아교육 분야의 대학교수로서 삶

국문 초록

본 연구는 풍부한 유아교육 현장경험과 학문적 전문성을 갖추고 현재 유아교육 분야의 대학교수로 임용되어 삶을 살아가고 있는 여성 3명을 연구 참여자로 선정한 후, 생애사 연구를 통하여 참여자들의 교육자적인 삶의 측면에서 이해하고 재조명하기 위한 목적으로 수행하였다. 2개의 연구 주제를 기반으로 반구조화된 질문지를 이용하여 개별적인 심층면담 방법으로 수집한 자료를 분석 및 해석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, ‘ 유아교육 분야 대학교수로서 삶은 어떠한가?’에서 연구 참여자들은 교수의 직업 선택은 자신의 소신 및 가치관에 의하여 이루어졌다. 이들은 교수의 역할을 전문성 향상에 두고 ‘학문 연구’를 최우선으로 하였다. 학생들을 동반자적 협력관계로 의미를 부여하며 학생교육에 최선을 다하였다. 둘째, ‘대학교수로서 보람, 희망, 계획, 포부는 무엇인가?’에서 연구 참여자들은 교수로서 갖추어야 할 덕목으로 많은 요인들 중에서 인성 및 전문성을 강조하였으며, 학생들의 의미를 동반자적 협력관계로 규정하고 학생교육에 최선을 다하였다. 유아교육 분야 교수로서의 관심은 연구 참여자들 마다 방법적인 측면에서는 차이는 있었지만 공통적으로 학생교육의 중요성을 강조하였다. 대학교수로서 느끼는 애환과 고충은 본연의 강의 및 연구보다는 자신의 소신과 의지에 반하는 생활에서 경험하는 것들이 큰 부분으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 연구 참여자들은 대학교수의 삶을 높이기 위해 유아교육 분야의 주요 당면과제로서 교사의 자질 향상, 수요자 중심의 교육과정 개편과 정책수립, 사회적 편견개선 등을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand and reexamine the life history of early childhood education professors from the view of educator’s life. The participants of the study were three women working as an early childhood education professor who had much field experience and academic expertise in the early childhood education. A semi-structured questionnaire based on two research topics was used to analyze and interpret data collected by an individual in-depth interview. The results were as follows. First, to the question of ‘How have you led your life as a professor?’, participants answered that they chose their job based on their belief and values. They thought that their role was to enhance professionalism and had a top priority on ‘academic research’. They believed that they should form a partnership with students and did their best to educate students. Second, to the question of ‘What are the reward, hope, plan, and aspiration of a university professor?’, participants said that the most important virtue of a professor was humanism and professionalism. They considered students their partner and tried their utmost for student education. Although their interests as an early childhood education professor were different in methods, they emphasized the importance of student education in common. The greatest sorrow and difficulty as a professor were not a lecture or study that it should be but experiences from life contrary to their belief and will. Participants suggested the enhancement of teacher’s quality, the reorganization of consumer-oriented curriculum and policy making, and the improvement of social prejudice as the urgent problems of early childhood education to heighten professor’s life.
