대학원생의 대학원 진학 동기와 학업지속 의도의 관계: 학업스트레스와 대학원 교육만족도의 매개효과

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 대학원생들의 대학원 진학 동기와 학업지속 의도의 관계에서 학업스트레스와 대학원 교육만족도의 매개효과를 가정한 구조모형을 설정하고, 모형의 적합도와 개별 변수의 관련성을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 서울 및 지방소재 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 대학원생 291명의 자료를 분석하였다. 구조방정식 분석 결과, 측정모형은 대학원생들의 자료를 적절히 설명하였다. 또한 대학원 진학 동기가 학업스트레스와 대학원 교육만족도를 매개로 학업지속 의도에 영향을 미치는 매개모형이 자료를 잘 설명하는 것으로 나타났으며, 대학원 진학 동기, 학업스트레스, 대학원 교육만족도는 학업지속 의도 변량의 27%를 설명하였다. 부트스트랩(Bootstrapping) 방법을 통해 대학원 진학 동기와 학업스트레스 및 대학원 교육만족도의 간접효과 유의성을 검증한 결과, 대학원 진학 내적 동기와 학업지속 의도의 관계에서 학업스트레스와 대학원 교육만족도의 간접효과와 대학원 진학 외적 동기와 대학원 교육만족도의 관계에서 학업스트레스의 간접효과가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 상담 및 고등교육에 대한 시사점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논하였다.

영문 초록

This study examined the causal structural model where students’ motivation to enroll in graduate school had direct and indirect effects on their intention to continue studies in graduate school via academic stress and satisfaction with graduate education. The study also examined the goodness-of-fit and the effects of individual variables from 291 graduate students who were attending four-year universities located in Seoul and other regions. The results showed that the estimation model explained the data well and that the partial mediation model adequately explained the impact of motivation to enroll in graduate school on the intention to continue studies with respect to academic stress and satisfaction with graduate education. Motivation to enroll in graduate school, academic stress, and satisfaction with graduate education explained 27% of the variance in intention to continue studies in graduate school. According to the bootstrap results on the indirect effects of motivation to enroll in graduate school on academic stress and satisfaction, the indirect effects of academic stress and satisfaction with graduate education on the relationship between intrinsic motivation and the intent to continue one s studies, as well as the indirect effects of academic stress on the relationship between extrinsic motivation and satisfaction with graduate education, were significant. Based on the findings, implications for counseling and higher education and related future research are provided.
