국문 초록

이 논문은 쉴러의 「인간의 미적 교육론」에 대한 또 하나의 해석, 즉 미적 경험을 통한 인간의 도덕화와는 구별되는 ‘미적 인간’의 교육이라는 가능성을 검토하고자 한다. 쉴러는 아름다움을 ‘현상으로 드러난 자유’라고 해석함으로써 미적 경험에 들어 있는 또 하나의 도덕화의 가능성을 성공적으로 드러냈다고 평가받는다. 그러한 연장선에서 쉴러는 또한 미적 경험의 ‘총체성’에 주목함으로써, 미적 경험을 통한 인간의 도덕화와는 구별되는 미적 인간의 인간화라는 또 하나의 교육적 이상을 제안한다고 할 수 있다. 여기서는 바로 그러한 제안을 검토하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 먼저 이성적 존재 일반, 즉 도덕적 ‘존재’에 주목하는 칸트로부터 도덕적 ‘인간’으로 전환하는 쉴러 입장이 지닌 교육적 의미를 밝히고, 쉴러의 ‘미적 경험’ 개념에서 미적 통합주의를 도출해내며, 그것이 다시금 미적 정초주의와 미적 완성주의로 해석될 때 초래되는 미적 교육의 형태와 의미를 드러내고자 한다. 이를 통해 미적 경험은 인간의 도덕화를 위한 최적의 수단이라는 해석과는 구별되는 경험, 즉 총체적이고 조화로운 인간을 형성하는 교육적 경험이라는 또 하나의 해석을 제안하고 그 가능성과 한계를 검토하게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

Schiller s treatise On the Aesthetic Education of Man is mostly understood as an educational theory of moralization via aesthetic experiences. However it is also permitted or recommended, to interpret it as a text about the education of aesthetic man, because Schiller deals not only with ‘aesthetics in education’, but also with ‘education in aesthetics’. First of all, a new interpretation of Schiller’s text is here to begin with clarifying Schiller s noticeable transposition from Kant’s moral beings into moral man. Compared with the one, the other is characterized by the simultaneous totality of sense and reason, which seems to be represented or vitalized in the aesthetic experience. Secondly, aesthetic experience is examined throughly because it plays a key role in Schiller’s text, in the sense, that it covers a wide range from aesthetic fundamentalism to aesthetic perfectionism. Thirdly, Schiller’s text is to interpret and to reconstruct as an attempt to theorize an education of aesthetic man. In this paper, Schiller is interpreted as an author who advocates aesthetic education of man, namely who speaks for an aesthetic humanizing in the sense of totalizing and perfecting of humanity. Such an aesthetic education can also reach its realm to the construction of social relationship and aesthetic state. That is only to hope, insofar as man forms himself as a total character through aesthetic experience. In that sense, education is fundamentally defined as an aesthetic phenomenon. In other words, the aesthetic person is only to expect through an aesthetic education.
