국문 초록

최근 교육철학계의 일각에서는 교육철학의 학문적 성격에 관한 한 가지 견해, 즉 ‘교육철학은 실천철학이어야 한다’는 견해가 대두되고 있다. ‘이론철학’이 아닌 ‘실천철학’을 주장하는 이 견해는, 종래의 ‘이론 중심의 교육철학’을 ‘교육현장과 괴리된’ 철학이라고 비판하면서, 교육철학은 교육실천 안에서의 반성과 실천으로서 마땅히 교육실천의 개선에 기여해야 한다고 주장한다. 이론과 실천의 구분에 관한 아리스토텔레스의 견해에 기반하고 있는 이 견해에서 ‘실천철학’은 ‘실천에 직접적으로 기여하는 철학’으로 규정되지만, 그 ‘직접적 기여’가 무엇인가 하는 점은 그다지 분명하지 않다. 아리스토텔레스의 그 구분 역시 이론과 실천의 ‘관련’을 보여주지 못한다는 점에서 한계를 지닌다. 「중용」에 나타나 있는 교육에 관한 견해는 아리스토텔레스의 구분이 안고 있는 난점을 극복하는 관점을 보여주며, 이 관점은, 교육철학은 명백히 이론적 탐구활동이지만 동시에 ‘실천의 실천’(메타프락시스)으로서의 성격을 가진다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Recently, one view on the nature of educational philosophy has been raised. According to which the educational philosophy should be a practical philosophy. This view advocates ‘practice philosophy’ rather than ‘theoretical philosophy’, criticizes the conventional ‘philosophy of theory centered on education’ as ‘philosophy that is distant from the educational practice’, and argues education philosophy should be the reflection within educational practice, and contribute to the improvement of educational practice. In this view, which is based on Aristotle’s view of the distinction between theory and practice, ‘practice philosophy’ is defined as ‘philosophy directly contributing to practice’, but it is not so clear what its ‘direct contribution’ . The division of Aristotle also has limitations in that it does not show the ‘relation’ between theory and practice. The view of education shown in Zhongyong(「中庸」) shows a viewpoint overcoming the difficulties that Aristotle distinguishes. This view is that education philosophy is clearly a theoretical inquiry activity, but at the same time, has the nature of the practice as practice(metapraxis).
