메이커교육에 의한 참여적 박물관 교육프로그램 사례 개발과 적용

국문 초록

현대 사회의 급속한 변화 속에 디지털 테크놀로지를 활용해 새로운 것들을 창출하고 공유하면서 또 다른 사회적 관계를 형성하고 실천하는 참여문화가 강조되고 있다. 박물관 또한 이러한 시대적 흐름과 요구에 발맞추어 학습자의 능동적인 참여 에 초점을 맞추고 지역사회 공동체와 협력을 통한 활발한 상호작용을 위해 ‘참여적 박물관’으로 변화가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 지역사회와 박물관의 연계를 추구하는 지역연계 참여적 박물관 프로그램 사례를 개발, 적용해보았다. 특히 교육방법 론으로 메이커교육을 선택하였는데, 그 이유는 첫째, 메이커교육이 디지털 테크놀로지의 활용을 전제로 하고 있으며, 둘째, 메이커교육이 추구하는 목표 곧 사회적 이슈와 문제 해결을 메이킹 활동이라는 구체적 활동을 통해 해결해 나가면서, 개인의 문제를 넘어 타인과 공감하며, 사회와의 소통과 공유를 추구한다는 목표가 지역연계 참여적 박물관과 맥을 같이 하기 때문이 었다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 박물관과 지역사회의 중심 중 하나인 학교와 공원, 그리고 메이커스페이스를 포함 시키는 프로그램을 통해 지역 연계성을 전개하였고, 지역 내 초등학교 한 학급(24명)을 대상으로 프로그램을 적용하였다. 이후 성찰 일지, 참여자 및 보조 교사와 대면 인터뷰, 설문지 등의 질적 자료를 수집, 결과를 분석한 결과, 학습자들이 지역사회에 대한 관심과 소속감에서의 긍정적 인식과 태도를 도출할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 하나의 사례에 불과하지만, 지역사회와의 연계 및 참여라는 현시대에 요구되는 박물관 교육의 새로운 역할과 방향성에 대한 가능성을 보여주었다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

Current society which creates new social relationships reinforced by digital technology resulted in new cultural characteristic called ‘participation culture.’ Museum, according to the sociocultural trends and needs, is also required to change to participating museum , thus, focusing on the active participation of learners and interaction with community. In this context, this study developed and applied a case study of community-connected participatory museum educational program. This study, especially, used ‘maker education’ as an educational method of the program due to the following reasons: 1st, maker education emphasizes active use of diverse digital technologies as tools and devices in their activities within makerspace outside school environment; 2nd, maker education deals with problem solving related to social issues, hence emphasizing empathy and social communication and sharing. And these two reasons are well matched with the goals of community-connected participatory museum education. This study, therefore, developed a program which connects local communities (school, part, and makerspace) with a local museum, and implemented it for the elementary school students in the area. Based upon qualitative data collected from interviews, reflective journals, and survey, the result of the program analyzed by focusing participants’ interest and identity toward their community, presented positive change of the participants in terms of their perception and attitudes. Even though this study was just one example, it can be said that it showed the possibility of the new role and direction of museum education required in the current era of participatory culture
