국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 페이스북 중독 과정을 자기 조절 이론을 토대로 이해하고자 하였다. 자기 조절 이론과 선행연구를 바탕으로 스트레스와 자기 통제력을 페이스북 중독에 영향을 미치는 변인으로 선정하였다. 구체적으로는 스트레스와 페이스북 중독 사이를 자기 통제력이 매개한다는 가설을 설정하였다. 경북 P시 소재 대학교에 재학 중인 남녀 대학생 221명에게 설문조사를 실시하였고, 구조방정식 모형을 적용하여 모형의 적합도 및 변인들의 직·간접 효과를 검증하였다. 그 결과, 스트레스는 자기 통제력을 매개로 페이스북 중독에 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 자기 통제력이 페이스북 중독에 대한 스트레스의 영향을 완전매개 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 스트레스가 직접 페이스북 중독에 영향을 끼치는 것이 아니라 스트레스가 자기 통제력을 낮춰 페이스북 중독에 영향을 미치는 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 폐이스북 중독의 예방과 대처에 있어 자기 통제력 향상을 위한 개입이 필요함을 연구의 함의로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The aim of the present study was to understand Facebook addiction among college students based on self-regulation theory. Considering self-regulation theory and previous studies, stress and self-control were chosen as factors that would affect Facebook addiction. Specifically, it was hypothesized that self-control would have a mediating effect between stress and Facebook addiction. In order to test this hypothesis, a survey was conducted with 221 male and female undergraduate students in an urban city of southern part of Korea. Structural equation modeling analysis was utilized to test the fit of the hypothesized model and to estimate direct and indirect effects of the variables of interest. Results showed that stress did not directly affect Facebook addiction and the effect of stress on Facebook addiction was fully mediated by self-control. This result indicates that Facebook addiction is not directly caused by stress, but caused by lowered self-control due to stress. Implications for the need of appropriate intervention to improve self-control are discussed.
