유아교육기관에서의 디지털매체 활용에 대한 유아교사들의 인식: 유아교사들과의 인터뷰를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아교육기관에서 교수매체로써 디지털매체 활용에 대한 유아교사들의 인식을 알아보고자 하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 이를 위해 유치원과 어린이집에 근무하는 만 3세~만 5세 학급 담임교사 12명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 면담자료 분석과정에서 디지털매체 활용에 대한 유아교사들의 인식이 양분화된 인식으로 나타나 대립코딩기법을 사용하여 복합적이고 다층적인 교사들의 관점이 드러날 수 있도록 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 디지털매체에 대한 유아교사들의 인식은 ‘필요성’, ‘교육 효과’, ‘유아 연령별 적절성‘ 측면으로 범주화되어 나타났다. 유아교사들은 유아교육현장에서 디지털매체의 활용이 필요하며 교육적인 의미가 있다고 인식하기도 하지만 예기치 못한 변수가 발생할 수 있으며 디지털매체를 활용한 경험은 직접경험이 아닌 간접경험이기에 한계가 있다고 인식하기도 하였다. 또한, 유아교사들은 유아의 연령에 따라 디지털매체의 적절성을 다르게 인식하고 있었다. 이는 유아교육현장에서 교수매체로써 디지털매체를 활용함으로써 마주하는 다양한 상황에 대한 논의의 제공 및 유아의 발달에 적합한 디지털교수매체의 활용과 교육적으로 적합한 디지털매체 환경조성을 위한 연구가 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to examine attitude of early childhood teachers toward use of digital media in teaching at educational institutions for young children. For this purpose, an in-depth interview was conducted for 12 teachers at kindergartens and childcare institutions, who are in charge of children ages three to five. The interview results showed a divided attitude of the teachers toward use of digital media. Considering this, a conflicting coding method was used to effectively reveal complex and multi-layered views of the teachers. The analysis results showed childhood teachers’ views on the use of digital media largely in three categories: the need for digital media, educational effect of digital media, and appropriateness of using digital media by children’s age. Early childhood teachers felt the need to use digital media for teaching and felt it can be educationally meaningful, but at the same time, they were aware that use of digital media could lead to unexpected situations, and that it might have limited educational effect since it only provides indirect experience. Early childhood teachers showed a different view on appropriateness of using digital media depending on the children’s age. This analysis is expected to stimulate discussions on various situations arising from use of digital media in teaching young children, and suggests a need for research on using digital media to support children’s development and creating an environment to use digital media for education in a suitable way.
