자유선택활동시간에 나타나는 유아의 수학적 경험의 맥락 : 조작놀이영역을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 실내자유선택활동시간에 조작놀이영역에서 수학적 경험이 이루어지는 맥락에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 만 5세 밝은 태양반의 유아 18명을 대상으로 8주간 총 25회, 비참여 관찰을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과, 유아들은 조작놀이영역에서 놀이하며 발생한 다양한 문제 상황을 해결하는 맥락에서 수학적 경험을 하는 ‘문제를 해결하며 만나는 수학’, 친구와 동질감과 유대감을 느끼거나 경쟁을 하는 맥락에서 수학적 경험을 하는 ‘친구와 함께하며 경험하는 수학’, 시간과 공간, 정리정돈 등 학급에서의 약속을 지키는 맥락에서 수학적 경험을 하는 ‘약속을 지키기 위해 필요한 수학’, 더욱 튼튼하고 아름다운 구성물을 만드는 맥락에서 수학적 경험을 하는 ‘멋지게 만들기 위해 활용하는 수학’으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 교사가 조작놀이영역에서 일어나는 유아의 수학적 경험을 지원하는 순간과 관련된 교수학습방법의 기초자료를 구축하는데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates young children’s mathematical experiences by exploring the contexts in which children encounter mathematical moments in the manipulative center during a free play time. Twenty-eight children aged 5 years participated in this study and they were observed 25 times over 8 weeks. Findings showed as follows: first, children had mathematical experiences in the context of solving various problems, which were categorized as “Mathematical experiences of solving problems”. Second, they had mathematical experiences in the context where they have a sense of homogeneity, a sense of connectedness, or a feeling of competition with friends, which were categorized as “Mathematical experiences with peers”. Third, they had the experiences in a situation where they had to keep the rules of a classroom related to time and space, which were categorized in to “Mathematical experiences for keeping rules”. Last, they had the experiences in a context where they construct robust and beautiful pieces for their play, which were categorized as ‘Mathematical experiences for making cool things’. This study provides implications for teacher’s use of teachable moments in supporting young children’s mathematical learning during free play time.
