퇴계 독서시의 지향가치와 그 인성론적 의의

국문 초록

퇴계 독서시는 규범적 가치를 지향한다. 화자가 자연미를 知覺하고 성현의 가르침에 의거하여 ‘당위적 규범으로서의 廣大和諧’를 제안하는 데서 이 점이 드러난다. 물론, 화자가 처음부터 규범적 가치를 지향하지는 않았다. 처음에는 경험적 가치를 지향했다. 경험적 가치의 성취도가 높기는 해도 최고 수준의 경지는 아니었기 때문에, 규범적 가치를 지향하기에 이르렀다. 화자에 의거할 때, 규범적 가치를 실현하기 위해서는 독서 방법과 공능을 성취해야 한다. 독서 방법으로는 活看과 理到認識이고, 독서 공능으로는 修己의 獨樂과 소통의 同樂이다. 독서 방법이든 공능이든 간에 자연물만을 대상으로 삼기 때문에, 화자의 지향가치는 人事보다는 天理에 주안점을 둔 규범적 가치라고 할 수 있다. 인성론의 측면에서 볼 때, 퇴계 독서시는 크게 보아 두 가지의 의의를 지닌다. 화자를 통해 義理를 강명하고 실천방법을 제시한다는 점과 인간존재를 生意 인식의 우주적 존재로 설정한다는 점이 그것이다.

영문 초록

Toigye s reading poems are oriented toward normative values, which is demonstrated in the ways that the speaker senses natural beauty and makes it Gwangdaehwahae as an appropriate norm based on teachings by sages. The speaker, of course, did not orient himself to normative values from the beginning. His initial orientation was toward experiential values. He recorded a high achievement level with experiential values but could not reach the highest level, which drove him toward normative values. According to the speaker, it is important to achieve reading methods and efficacy in order to implement normative values. His reading methods include Hwalgan and Ido awareness, and his reading efficacy includes the Dokrak of Sugi and Dongrak of communication. The speaker only targets natural objects regardless of reading methods and efficacy, the values of his orientation are normative values focused on Cheonri rather than Insa. In the aspect of the personality theory, Toigye s reading poems hold significance in two major ways: they investigate Ui-ri and propose its practice methods through the speaker and set the human existence as the cosmic existence of Saengui awareness.
