시각문화의 관계해석을 통한 미술 비평교육 필요와 모색

국문 초록

삶의 추구가치에 따른 복합적인 요구들은 시각적 이미지를 통하여 보다 극명하게 나타난다. 현대 시각적 이미지는 다양한 사회 문화적 현상을 반영하며 적극적인 은유메시지로 가시화 된다. 그러므로 시각적 이미지는 우리에게 메시지를 명확하게 전달한다고 보기 어려워 시각문화 역시 이해, 해석, 판단의 과제를 부여하고 있다. 인간은 모두 문화적이며, 정도의 차이는 있지만 문화에 접속한다(John A. Walker & Sarah Chaplin, 1997). 자아의 문화 접속은 늘 새로운 지향적 성취 방향을 갖는다. 그러므로 이전 시대의 이미지가 현재에 시각적 만족을 주는 것은 쉽지 않다. 지난 이미지는 현재와 다른 시각성으로 감지되기 때문이다. 시각성은 시각적 사실과 관계적이다. 자아의 시각성은 시각 문화적 대상을 파악하고 이해, 해석하는데 중요하게 반영된다. 시각 문화대상 역시 시각성을 지닌다. 그러므로 시각이라는 감각기관에 기반하는 시각성(visuality)에 대한 논의는 시각행위(act of seeing), 시각 기제들(visual apparatus), 시각행위의 주체(subject)에 대한 연구를 아우른다(이지은, 2006). 시각성에 대한 이해는 시각기제들과 그 관계를 배제한 의미접근은 어려움을 갖는다.

영문 초록

Human desires are forced to continue producing visual outcomes. When human beings attempt to achieve the desire for a richer, better, more abundant life, they need to more sensitively respond to a variety of visual culture phenomenon messages and to carefully interpret and judge their relations amicably. The present and past social, culture and historical contexts are related to the present phenomena so that it is needed to understand and overcome discontinuity and unexpectation rather than disconnection and unicity. Visual culture education should be able to expand understanding activities of visual culture objects, so as to improve learner's possibilities of internal self-criticism. It is also possible to suggest needs for positive questions and aesthetic communication through relations to visual culture phenomena. It is apparent, however, that our critical education tends to place too much emphasis on comprehensive and common objects and, therefore, that it has to be reviewed very carefully. The purpose of this study is to change the understanding of critical education as a part of visual culture education, to suggest needs for its expansion, and to find critical methods by interpreting relations reflecting learner's visuality. To accomplish the purposes, this study was carried out in the following ways. First, to examine the visuality concerning the ‘relation' meaning of self and object. Second, to emphasize the needs for understanding the mutual relations of 'look' and 'show' among visual culture phenomena while recognizing visuality and to suggest the importance of its understanding, interpretation and judgment. Third, to suggest methods for critical education needed to interpret relations to visual culture.
