영문 초록

In order to compare the effect of carbamazepine, clonidine, and chlordiazepoxide on alcohol withdrawal symptoms, a comparative study of carbamazepine, clonidine, and chlordiazepoxide was conducted with 34 alcoholics of alcohol withdrawal symptoms during the period from August, 1994 to November, 1994. The patients were assigned randomly to either carbamazepine(600mg/day) or clonidine(0.225 mg/day) or chlordiazepoxide(60mg/day) treated groups for 7 days. During the trial period, target alcohol withdrawal symptoms(CIWA-Ar Scale), sleep pattern, blood pressure, pulse rate, and side effect were recorded daily. The results are summarized as follows ； 1) CIWA-Ar Scores did significantly change during the study, but did not significantly change among three groups. 2) Sleep scores did significantly change during the study, and carbamazepine and chlordiazepoxide treated group were improved more significantly than the clonidine group. 3) Blood pressure and pulse rate did significantly change during the study, and clonidine and chlordiazepoxide treated group were improved more significantly than the carbamazepine group. 4) Adverse drug reactions reported by each group were similiar, but ataxia and skin rashes were observed in the carbamazepine group. In conclusion, the study suggests that carbamazepine and clonidine are as effective and safe as chlordiazepoxide, and may represent a alternative agents for the management of acute alcohol withdrawal symptoms
