영문 초록

Objects ： This study was designed to investigate underlying personality pathology and specific eating traits of eating disorder or eating-related problems by revealing high prevalence rate of eating problem and it’s relatedness to personality characteristics in athletic group, which was considered as a high risk group for eating disorders. Methods ： The subjects were 308 college athletes(male ： 187，female ： 121) and 477 college student controls(male : 248，female ： 229). The authors used self report questionnaire composed of epidemiologic data, food habit scale, eating attitude test, scale for locus of control for weight, scale for food preference and eating behavior. And we also used Eysenck Personality Questionnaire of Korean standadized edition for assessment of personality characteristics. Results ： 1) The eating habits o f college athletes was better than those o f college students, but the total score o f the eating attitude test which was related to abnormal eating behavior or eating d isorder in college athletes was higher than that o f college students, especially in female athletic group. In locus of control for weight, male athletes had similar trend with female athletes and college students and were different from male college students. 2) There was no meaningful difference in the score of extroversion-introversion scale between college athletes and students. But the score of neuroticism and the lie scale were the highest in female athletes and the score of psychoticism scale was the highest in male athletes. 3) Among the personality characteristics, psychoticism had a consistent correlation with most of eating trait in college athletic group. The total score of EAT had the positive correlation with the score of psychoticism and the other eating traits beside EAT showed a different pattern by sex as like the score of eating habit scale in male and the score of IECW in female. 4) In multiple regression analysis for eating traits to each personality characteristics, psychoticism scale had the highest regression coefficiency. And neuroticism scale, extroversion-introversion scale and lie scale followed by order. Conclusion ： These results may suggest that athletes, especially female athletes, have higher prevalence rate of eating disorder or eating-related problem than college students and these problems are related with psychoticism as like in general population rather than specific personality characteristics of athlete themselves. And in male athletic group, eating habit is more related with psychoticism but in female athletic group locus of control for weight is more related with psychoticism. Such a difference may suggest that different approach strategy should be needed to manage the athletes with eating problems
