국문 초록

본 연구는 미국의 역사 문해력 교육과정 자료인 《읽기·탐구하기·쓰기(Read. Inquire. Write.)》를 분석하여, 학생들의 역사 논증 쓰기 역량 함양에 대한 교육적 함의를 제시하였다. 《읽기·탐구하기·쓰기》는 역사 고유의 쓰기를 논증(argumentation)으로 보고, ‘해석하기’, ‘반론하기’, ‘재반론하기’라는 세 유형의 역사 쓰기를 단계적으로 학습함으로써 논증적 글쓰기 능력을 진전·심화시킬 수 있도록 설계되었다. 본 연구는 이 교육과정이 제공하는 단계적 쓰기 진전 모델이 역사적 사고와 논증 능력의 발달에 기여하는 교육적 메커니즘을 고찰하며, 한국 역사교육에 대한 적용 가능성 및 역사적 사고력과 문해력 증진을 위한 실천적 시사점을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines Read. Inquire. Write. a widely recognized historical literacy framework in the United States, to evaluate its educational implications for cultivaing students’ historical writing ability. The curriculum conceptualizes historical writing as process of structured argumentation, advancing students’ competencies through three progressive stages - interpretation, critique, and counterargument. By guiding students through these stages, the curriculum is designed to systematically deepen their argumentation writing skills. This research explores the educational mechanisms embedded in this progression model, which facilitate the development of historical reasoning and argumentation capabilities. Additionally, it assesses the curriculum’s potential applicability within Korean history education, offering practical insights for enhancing historical thinking and literacy.
