국문 초록

본 논문은 국내 대학들이 외국인 유학생의 양적 증가에 치중한 결과, 학업 성취 저하와 중도 탈락률 증가 등 여러 문제를 초래했다는 문제의식에서 출발한다. 이를 해결하기 위해, 유학생들이 낯선 환경에서 자신을 이해하고 목표와 가치를 명확히 설정할 수 있도록 지원하는 자아 정체성 교육의 필요성을 제안한다. 자아 정체성은 서사적 정체성과 밀접히 연관되며, 이는 자신과 타인의 관계를 서사 형식으로 이해하고 표현하는 과정이다. 본 논문은 이러한 이론적 틀을 바탕으로, 외국인 유학생의 정체성 형성을 돕는 자기 서사 글쓰기 활용 방안을 제안한다. 자아 정체성 교육은 외국인 유학생들의 대학 생활 적응과 학습 동기를 키워 자신감을 갖고 성장할 수 있도록 돕는 중요한 과정이다. 특히, 자기 서사 글쓰기 활동은 유학생들이 자신의 경험과 감정을 서사적으로 재구성함으로써 자아를 성찰하고, 학업과 개인적 성장의 의미를 발견하게 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 외국인 유학생들의 인성 교육을 위한 대학 글쓰기 교육의 활용 가능성을 제안한다는 점에 시사하는 바가 크다.

영문 초록

This study addresses the challenges of prioritizing the quantity of foreign students over the quality of education at Korean universities. These challenges include academic underachievement, increasing dropout rates, and difficulties in adapting to university life. To address these issues, the study emphasizes the need for self-identity education, which supports foreign students in understanding themselves and clarifying their goals and values in unfamiliar environments. Self-identity is closely associated with narrative identity, which involves understanding and expressing the relationship between oneself and others in a narrative form. Based on this theoretical framework, this paper proposes a method for utilizing self-narrative writing to support the identity formation of international students. Self-identity education is an essential process that helps foreign students adapt to university life, build academic motivation, and foster self-confidence for growth. Specifically, narrative writing activities enable students to reconstruct their experiences and emotions, promoting self-reflection and discovering the meaning of academic and personal growth. Thus, this study highlights the potential of university writing education as a tool for personality development and the adaptation of foreign students.
