국문 초록

본 연구는 시칠리아의 이슬람 문화유산을 조명한다. 특히 12세기 시칠리아의 문화적 혼융과 공존의 상징으로 평가되는 로제루 2세의 대관복을 중심으로 분석한다. 827년부터 1246년까지 아랍-이슬람 문화는 시칠리아 섬에 직·간접적으로 중요한 영향을 미쳤다. 무슬림의 통치(827년~1061년)와 노르만족의 통치(1071년~1246년)의 약 400년 동안 아랍 무슬림은 예술, 건축, 농업, 식문화 등 다양한 분야에서 기여하며, 시칠리아만의 독특한 사회문화적 풍경을 형성하였다. 로제루 2세의 대관복은 아랍-노르만-비잔틴 문화의 융합을 대표하는 유물로 알려졌고, 노르만 왕국의 통치 시기에 아랍 장인들이 직접 제작에 참여하였다. 이는 아랍-이슬람 왕조의 통치가 막을 내린 이후에도 노르만 왕국이 이슬람 예술 전통을 유지하고 후원했음을 보여준다. 그뿐만 아니라 노르만 시기의 문화적 다양성, 통합, 공존을 상징적으로 드러낸다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 8세기부터 11세기까지의 시칠리아 내 이슬람의 유입과 정복 과정을 살펴보고, 11세기부터 13세기까지 노르만 왕국 지배하에서 지속된 이슬람의 영향을 분석한다. 로제루 2세 대관복에서 확장하여 예술, 장식, 건축, 등 여러 영역에서 구체적인 사례를 살펴본다. 이는 역사적 문화적 측면에서 이슬람이 시칠리아에 미친 지속적인 영향을 이해하는 데 있어 유의미한 통찰을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the Islamic cultural heritage of Sicily, with a particular focus on the coronation mantle of Roger II as a symbol of cultural hybridization and coexistence in 12th-century Sicily. From 827 to 1246, Arab-Islamic culture significantly influenced the island, both directly and indirectly. During this period, Arab Muslims made notable contributions to various domains, including art, architecture, agriculture, and cuisine, shaping the cultural landscape of Sicily under the Norman dynasty. Roger II's coronation mantle exemplifies the fusion of Arab, Norman, and Byzantine elements, serving as a tangible representation of the cultural diversity, integration, and coexistence that characterized the era. This study examines the introduction and expansion of Islam in Sicily from the 8th to the 11th centuries and its enduring influence during the Norman Kingdom from the 11th to the 13th centuries. Through an analysis of Roger II's coronation mantle, it highlights specific instances of cultural hybridization across different spheres.This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the 400-year history of Islam in Sicily, tracing its legacy from the 9th century and offering insights into its profound and lasting impact on the island’s cultural and historical development.
