전통매듭의 형태적 특성과 제작기법 연구

국문 초록

매듭은 고대부터 조선시대까지 다수의 유물이 존재하지만, 일제강점기의 문화 말살 정책으로 많은 문화가 훼손되었다. 주변 국가의 많은 매듭이 다양한 경로로 유입되었고, 소수 전문가에 의한 전승과 손으로 전하는 방법적인 한계를 비롯하여 기법·형태 등에 관한 학술적인 연구가 매우 미흡하다. 본 연구에서는 전통매듭의 제작기법과 형태적 특성을 연구하고 전승되는 매듭의 개별적인 특징을 도출하였다. 이를 토대로 유물을 분석함으로써 전통매듭의 보전에 기여할 수 있도록 하는데 목적을 두었다. 먼저, 무형문화재 매듭장 기능보유자에 의해 전해지는 매듭의 종류와 매듭의 구조를 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 제작기법과 형태적 특성에 따라 단독으로 사용하는 단일매듭, 같은 매듭을 연속으로 맺어 새로운 매듭을 만드는 연속매듭, 다른 종류의 매듭을 함께 맺는 혼합매듭, 매듭의 크기를 증가시킬 수 있는 확장매듭으로 분류하였다. 나아가 유사한 형태의 매듭이 사용된 매듭유물을 분석함으로써 소장처의 오록을 방지하고, 원형 그대로의 복원 및 재현에 기여할 수 있는 분석자료 기반을 마련하였다. 유사한 형태의 매듭은 몸판 양쪽에 생쪽매듭이 달린 장구매듭과 삼정자매듭, 양쪽 고를 크게 맺는 학날개매듭과 고 큰 생쪽매듭, 잠자리날개매듭이 있으며, 몸판의 모양이 동일하게 나타나는 도래매듭과 고를 두 번 돌려 맺은 외도래매듭이 있다. 본 연구는 전통매듭의 제작기법과 형태적 특성 연구를 기반으로 유물의 형태적 분석을 시도함으로써 원형 그대로의 기법 보전에 기여하고 전통매듭 기법연구의 초석이 되고자 하였다.

영문 초록

There are numerous relics of knots from ancient times to the Joseon Dynasty, but many cultures were damaged due to the policy of cultural destruction during the Japanese colonial period. Since the methodological limitations of transmission by a small number of experts by hand and difficulty of distinguishing knots from various countries, academic research is necessary to study the techniques and forms. This study is to observe the morphological characteristics of traditional knots and analyze the knotting techniques to derive individual characteristics of the knots so that traditional knots can be produced using traditional techniques when handed down, restored, and reproduced. First, the type and structure of the knot transmitted by the intangible cultural asset Maedeupjang were confirmed. Based on this, we classify knots into four types based on the knotting technique and morphological characteristics: single knot, which is used alone; continuous knot, which tie the same knot in succession to create a new knot; mixed knot, which tie different knot together; and extended knot, which can increase size of the knot. Furthermore, the research also proposes similar types of knots and the movement of string as two things to keep in mind when restoring and reproducing. There are many similar knots that easy to confused, so it is necessary to examine the knotting technique and propose an analysis method through the study of string movement. Therefore, this study contributes to the preservation of techniques by analyzing the artifacts basis on research of traditional knotting techniques and morphological characteristics.
