국문 초록

본 연구는 한 중등교사가 공교육에 도입된 IB학교에서 교사로서 어떤 삶을 경험하는지 이해하고자 한다. 2019년에 대구시와 제주도가 IB교육을 공교육에 도입한 이후 전국적으로 IB교육이 확산되고 있다. 이런 상황에서 국가교육과정에 근거하여 가르친 일반 공교육 교사가 IB MYP의 교육과정을 운영하면서 어떤 경험을 하는지, 어떤 교사로서의 삶을 만들어가는지를 이해하는 것은 큰 의미가 있다. 이런 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 대구시 IB학교에서 5년 간 근무해온 한 중등교사를 연구참여자로 선정하여 심층면담 방법을 활용했다. 연구결과, 첫째, 연구참여자는 IB학교에서 성적 중심 교육과 탐구 중심 교육 간에 갈등을 경험했다. 둘째, 연구참여자는 IB유닛플랜이 교사전문성을 향상시키고 탐구 중심의 수업으로 이끄는 강력한 도구가 된다고 경험했다. 셋째, 연구참여자는 연령이 높아지더라도 교과전문가로서 삶을 유지할 수 있겠다는 가능성을 인식하게 되었다. 이상을 바탕으로 국가교육과정의 학교현장 적용을 지원하는 유닛플랜을 개발해야 하며, 교사에 대한 IB유닛설계의 지원이 필요하고, IB교육의 내실화를 위해 입시문화에 대한 적절한 대응이 필요함을 논의했다.

영문 초록

This study seeks to understand what life a secondary school teacher experiences as a teacher in an IB school introduced to public education. Since Daegu City and Jeju Island introduced IB education into public education in 2019, IB education has been spreading nationwide. In this situation, it is of great significance to understand what experiences general public education teachers who teach based on the national curriculum have while operating the IB MYP curriculum and what kind of life they create as teachers. To achieve this research objective, a middle school teacher who had worked at an IB school in Daegu City for 5 years was selected as a research participant and an in-depth interview method was used. As a result of the study, first, the research participants experienced conflict between grade-based education and inquiry-based education at IB schools. Second, research participants experienced that the IB unitplan was a powerful tool that improved teacher expertise and led to inquiry-oriented classes. Third, the research participant came to recognize the possibility that she could maintain her life as a subject expert even as she grew older. Based on the above, it was discussed that a unitplan that supports the application of the national curriculum to school sites must be developed, that support for IB unit design for teachers is necessary, and that an appropriate response to the entrance exam culture is necessary to enhance IB education.
