국문 초록

오늘날은 ‘4차 산업혁명’, ‘인류세’, ‘포스트-코로나’로 대변되는 시대다. 이 글은 이러한 문명 대 전환의 시기에 역사 또는 역사학이 어떻게 정의되거나 변해야 하는지를, 그리고 역사철학 빈곤의 시대인 오늘날 새로운 역사철학이 가능하다면 그것은 어떤 모습일지를 고민하는 일종의 시론적 성격의 글이다. 빅히스토리나 자연과학적 관점에서 바라보았을 때, 인간 역사는 이제 그동안 전통적인 방법과는 결을 달리하는 접근 방식으로 연구될 수밖에 없다. 이른바 새로운 역사철학의 가능성은 ⑴ 시간, ⑵ 공간, ⑶ 인간, ⑷ 단계 등 네 가지 차원에서 고찰할 수 있다. 먼저 역사 시간은 근대의 ‘가속’ 개념을 넘어 이제 ‘쾌속’으로 가는 중이다. 둘째 역사에서의 공간 또한 메타버스의 시대에 현실 공간을 넘어 가상공간으로까지 확대되고 있다. 역사에서의 인간 개념도 오늘날 전통적인 인간관을 넘어 포스트휴머니즘, 트랜스휴머니즘으로 넓혀지고 있다. 마지막으로 역사에서의 단계도 역시 전통적인 역사철학들에서 제시됐던, 역사 발전을 기준으로 한 3단계설 또는 5단계설에서 벗어나 이제는 자연, 과학, 기술 등을 키워드로 새롭게 재구성될 수 있다.

영문 초록

Today is the era represented by the ‘4th Industrial Revolution’, ‘Anthropocene’, and ‘Post-Covid-19 World’. This article is a kind of essay that explores how history or historiography should be defined or reshaped in this period of great civilizational transition and what a new philosophy of history would look like where the current landscape of historical thought is marked by a “poverty of philosophy of history.” From the perspective of big history or natural science, human history has no choice but to be studied with an approach that is different from the traditional methods. The possibility of a new philosophy of history can be considered in four dimensions: ⑴ time, ⑵ space, ⑶ human, and ⑷ stage. First, the time of history is going beyond the modern concept of ‘acceleration’ and is now moving towards ‘rapid speed’. Second, the concept of space in history is also expanding beyond real space to virtual space in the era of the metaverse. The concept of humans in history is also expanding today beyond the traditional view of humanity to posthumanism and transhumanism. Finally, the stages in history can also be newly reconstructed by keywords such as nature, science, and technology, breaking away from the three- or five-stage theory based on historical development presented in traditional philosophies of history.
