국문 초록

최근 드라마 플랫폼 환경이 급변하면서 금기시되었던 소재 중 하나인 군대가 사실적/직접적으로 재현되고 있다. 이 글은 코미디의 속성을 활용해 군대를 재현한다는 특이성이 있는 드라마 <신병>의 웃음 유발 방식과 그 의미를 고찰한 논문이다. <신병>의 웃음 유발에서 가장 기본적으로 활용되는 것은 과장이다. 이는 주인공의 설정, 정형화된 인물, 예상치 못한 행동으로 이어져 다양한 웃음을 만들어낸다. 이 웃음은 실제 현실에서도 작동하는 계급/권력 질서를 전제로 하기 때문에 <신병>이 유발하는 웃음은 현실을 반영한 씁쓸한 웃음이라 할 수 있다. 이렇게 발생한 웃음은 사건, 인물, 구조 측면에서 다른 이질적인 요소들과 결합, 결국 <신병>은 군 생활과 실제 삶의 동일성의 원리를 포착해낸다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로 <신병>은 군대를 이타적/포용적 삶으로 의미화한다. 처음이기 때문에 미숙할 수밖에 없는 시절을 ‘신병’으로 은유, 인간이라면 누구나 거치게 되는 신병 시절에 대한 관용과 이해를 제언하는 것이다. 이러한 <신병>의 재현 방식은 군대의 이면을 고발/폭로하는 것보다 직접적이지는 않지만, 군대라는 소재를 통해 시청자로 하여금 자신과 현실 세계를 되돌아보게 유도한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 드라마 플랫폼 환경이 다원화되는 추세에서 <신병>의 소재 발굴과 활용은 높게 평가할 만하고, 이러한 새로운 시도들이 지속된다면 군대에 대한 논의 및 한국 드라마의 저변이 보다 확장되리라 사료된다.

영문 초록

The military, which used to be one of the tabooed materials, has begun to be reproduced in realistic/direct ways following the rapid change of the drama platform environment in recent years. This study examined the ways that , which is a drama to reproduce the military with comedy attributes, induced laughs and their meanings. The most basic tool used to induce laughs in the drama is exaggerating. Exaggerations lead to the setting of main characteristics, stereotypical characters, and their unexpected acts, creating various laughs. Such laughs are based on the premise of the rank/power order operating in reality, which means that the laughs induced in the drama are bitter laughs reflecting reality. These laughs are combined with other heterogeneous elements in the event, character, and structure aspects. The drama eventually establishes a viewpoint that the same principle works between the military life and the real life, ultimately signifying the military as an altruistic/inclusive life. Using the metaphor of “new recruits” for the years of life when human beings are inevitably immature because of many firsts, the drama proposes tolerance and understanding for the new recruit days that every person goes through. These ways of 's reproduction are not direct compared to whistle-blowing or disclosing the hidden side of the military, but the drama is significant in that it induces viewers to look back on the real world as well as themselves through the material of the military. The drama deserves high praises for the excavation and utilization of the material amid the pluralization trend of the drama platform environment. If such new attempts continue, they will contribute to the further expansion of the base of Korean dramas as well as discussions about the military.
