모바일 데이터 요금제 가입 선택의 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

데이터 무제한 요금제는 모바일 서비스의 확산 및 진화를 앞당긴 동시에 가계통신비가 증가된 주요 원인 중 하나로 인식된다. 본 연구는 모바일 인터넷 시장에서 소비자의 데이터 무제한요금제 선택에 영향을 미치는 요인들이 무엇인지, 요금제 간의 변경 선택이 소비자 편익에 어떤영향을 주는지 실증 분석하였으며, 한국미디어패널조사 2019년~2022년 기간의 자료를 사용하였다. 프로빗 모형의 추정 결과 연령이 낮고 소득이 높을수록 요금제 변경확률이 높았으며, 결합서비스 가입 고객이 사용량 기반 요금제에서 데이터 무제한 요금제로 변경할 확률이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 혼합 조건부 로짓 모형의 추정 결과, 사용량 기반 요금제에서 데이터 무제한 요금제로 변경하는 경우 효용이 감소하는 반면 그 반대 방향으로의 변경 시 효용이 증가하는 것으로추정되었다. 무제한 요금제의 예측 가능성과 편리성에도 불구하고, 다양한 구간의 데이터 제공량을 제시하는 세분화된 요금제가 거의 없는 상황에서 고객의 최적 사용량을 초과하는 높은 요금의 상품을 선택함에 따라 비효용이 발생하는 것으로 해석이 가능하며 이는 향후 데이터 요금 전략 및 정부 정책에 시사점을 주는 결과이다.

영문 초록

The unlimited data plan has been pointed out as one of the main reasons for the increase in household communication costs while accelerating the spread and evolution of mobile services. This study empirically analyzed what factors affect consumers' unlimited data plan choices in the mobile Internet market and how switching between data plans affect consumer benefits, and data from the period 2019 to 2022 of the Korea Media Panel Survey were employed. The results of Probit model suggest that the lower the age and higher the income, the higher the probability of changing the data plan, and the customers who subscribed to the bundling service are more likely to change from a usage-based plan to a data unlimited plan. The results from Mixed Conditional Logit model suggest that the consumers’ benefit decreases when changing from a usage-based plan to a data unlimited plan, while the benefit increases when changing in the opposite direction. Despite the predictability and convenience of the unlimited plan, it can be interpreted that disutility occurs when a customer chooses a plan with a high rate exceeding the customer's optimal usage in a situation where there are few subdivided data plans, which has implications for operators’ pricing strategies and government policies.
