국문 초록

이 글은 19세기 문인 高聖謙이 남긴 ｢夢遊金剛錄｣이라는 작품의 특징과 의미를 탐구한 것이다. 고성겸은 高夢贊의 아들로 경북 상주 지역에서 생활하며 출세를 뒤로 하고 독서와 문장에 침잠했던 인물이다. 그는 당대 여느 문인과 마찬가지로 산수유람을 애호하며 오랫동안 금강산을 동경하였는데, 이에 수차례 금강산 유람을 계획했으나 번번이 실패하고 노경에는 금강산을 다녀온 이들의 이야기를 듣는 것으로 묵은 바람을 대리충족하고 있었다. 그러던 중 금강산에 사는 승려 羅隱이 찾아와 금강산 곳곳의 명소에 대한 이야기를 듣게 되고, 그날 밤 그곳들을 그대로 유람하는 꿈을 꾼 뒤 지은 작품이 ｢몽유금강록｣이다. 이 작품은 꿈을 꾸게 된 경위를 쓴 서문과 꿈에 본 관동팔경 및 금강산의 명소들을 제재로 삼은 시 44편으로 구성되어 있으며, 각 시에는 해당 장소에 대한 묘사 및 관련된 견문이나 전언 등이 서술된 小序가 붙어 있다. 이는 고성겸이 지은 여타 유람록과 같은 형식을 취한 것으로, 덕분에 ｢몽유금강록｣은 기본적으로 기몽작품이지만 단순히 꿈의 내용과 감상을 쓰는 것에서 나아가 다양한 정보를 담은 遊記로서의 성격을 갖게 되었다. 본고에선 이에 주목하여 ｢몽유금강록｣의 특징적인 지점을 짚었다. 19세기에 들어 영남 지역에서 금강산으로 향하는 새로운 유람 경로를 제시하고 있다는 것, 그런 가운데 여타의 유기에서는 거의 언급되지 않는 명소가 등장하고 그와 관련된 새로운 이야기와 정보가 수록되고 있다는 것, 그럼에도 전언이나 독서 등 간접체험에 기반한 꿈이기에 사실과 어긋나는 부분도 더러 발견된다는 것 등이다. 이를 토대로 ｢몽유금강록｣의 의미와 의의를 따져보았다. 고성겸 그 자신에게 있어서 이 꿈은 오랜 희구와 좌절, 미련, 실현불가능성 등이 뒤얽혀 만들어진 강력한 욕망이 터져 나와 해소되는 과정이요, 이를 자신의 특별한 유람을 기록했던 방식을 그대로 취하여 ｢몽유금강록｣이라는 일편을 완성한 것은 평생의 산수벽을 문학적으로 갈무리하는 마지막 작업이라 할 것이다. 한편 문학사의 차원에서 ｢몽유금강록｣은 창작의 기제로서 臥遊의 가능성을 타진케 하는 작품이자, 기몽문학의 외연에서 포착되는 양식적 운동성 내지 활성을 보여주는 작품으로서 중요한 의의를 갖는다 하겠다.

영문 초록

This thesis examines 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok(夢遊金剛錄)」 written by Go Seong-gyeom(高聖謙), a 19th-century Joseon writer. Go Seong-gyeom, the son of Go Mong-chan(高夢贊), was passionate about literature and had a deep admiration for Mt. Geumgang. Despite failed attempts to visit the mountain, he found solace in hearing stories from others who had been there. One day, he met Na-eun(羅隱), a monk residing in Mt. Geumgang, who explained its main attractions. Inspired by this encounter, Go Seong-gyeom created 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 based on a dream he had about traveling there. This work consists of 44 poems that depict famous places seen in dreams, accompanied by a preface explaining the circumstances of these dreams. Each poem is preceded by a brief introduction describing the place, the experiences associated with it, and the messages conveyed. Following the structure of Go Seong-gyeom's other travelogues, 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 goes beyond merely recording dream contents and impressions, embodying the characteristics of a travelogue that offers diverse information. In this article, focusing on these aspects, the distinct features of 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 are summarized into three categories. Firstly, it introduces a new travel route from the Yeongnam region to Mt. Geumgang in the 19th century. Secondly, it includes lesser-known landmarks not commonly found in other Mt. Geumgang travelogues, presenting new stories and information related to them. Thirdly, since the dreams are based on indirect experiences such as messages or readings, there are instances where they do not align with factual details. Based on this, the literary meaning of 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 was examined. For Go Seong-gyeom, this dream is a process in which a powerful desire created by long-awaited longing, frustration, lingering regret, and impossibility of realization erupts and is resolved. And completing 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 according to the way he recorded his travels is the final work of capturing his lifelong travel hobby as a literary work. On the other hand, from the viewpoint of the history of literature, 「Mong-yu-geumgangrok」 is an important example of creating a work through an imaginary trip. In addition, it has an important significance in the history of literature in that it is a work that testifies to the stylistic activity of dream-recording literature.
