IB MYP의 ATL 기능과 미술 교과 역량교육에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

이 연구는 학교교육에서 예술(미술과)의 위치를 강화하는 IB 중등교육 프로그램(MYP)을 중심으로, 미술과 교과 역량교육의 과제를 해결하기 위한 시사점 도출을 목적으로 한다. 2015 개정 미술과 교육과정은 교과 성격에서 미술과가 학생들에게 어떤 능력을 길러줄 수 있는지 교과 역량을 중심으로 밝히고 있다. 그러므로 미술과 교육과정에서 구현하고자 하는 바가 달성되기 위해 교과 역량과 내용 체계 및 성취기준, 교수 학습 및 평가의 방향이 일목요연하게 일치될 필요가 있다. 하지만 이들의 관계는 연계성이 떨어지고, 실제 교육활동이 이루어지는 국면에서 교과 역량의 위치는 분명하지 않은 형편이다. 즉, 미술과 교과 역량과 그 교육 실천의 연결이 강화되어야 할 과제를 안고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 IB MYP 프로그램의 예술교육이 미술과 교과 역량교육 실현에 주는 시사점을 찾아보았다. IB MYP 프로그램은 전 교과가 횡단적으로 상호 관계하고 예술교과는 타교과와 같이 중시된다. 이점에 주목하여 본 연구에서는 첫째, IB MYP의 기본 개념과 예술(미술과)의 위상을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 예술교육에 관한 관점과 교육적 특징 등을 고찰하였다. 셋째, ATL 기능이 미술과 교과 역량교육의 실천에 주는 시사점을 탐색하였다. 이상의 연구를 통해 미술과와 타 교과의 동등한 위상의 회복, 내용 체계의 재구조화 및 교수-학습 설계의 전환이 요구됨을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

This study explores the implications associated with resolving problems related to art as a subject’s competency in education, focusing on the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), which strengthens the position of the arts in schools. Based on subject competencies, the 2015 Revised National Art Curriculum reveals what kind of abilities art can develop for students in the section about subject characteristics. To achieve these, it is necessary to align the subject competencies; contents system; achievement standards; and directions of teaching, learning, and evaluation. However, there is still a degree of disconnent between these strands, and the position of the subject competencies remains unclear in the context of the actual educational activities themselves. In other words, we have a commitment to strengthen the relationship between art’s subject competencies and its educational practice. Accordingly, this study investigated the implications of art education through the IB MYP and its ability to effectively implement art’s competencies as a subject through education. In the IB MYP, all the subjects are interrelated, and the arts are emphasized as much as the other subjects. Based on these characteristics, the study initially examined the basic concepts of the IB MYP and the status of visual arts as a subject in relation to the arts. Secondly, it analyzed the perspective and educational characteristics of arts education; and thirdly it explored the implications that Approach to Learning (ATL) offers as a means of modeling competency-based education in art. In conclusion, restoring art as a subject to ensure that it has the same status as all the other subjects, reconstructing the contents system, and innovation in teaching and learning design will be required for the future.
