초등 사회과 교과서의 학습읽기 전략 실태

국문 초록

이 연구에서는 내용교과의 교과서를 개선하기 위해서 내용교과의 하나인 초등학교 『사회』 교과서를 선정하여 학습읽기 전략의 반영 실태를 살펴보고 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 학습읽기는 국어과에서 학습한 읽기 능력이 내용교과 학습의 도구로 사용되는 것을 말한다. 분석 결과, 초등학교 『사회』 교과서에서는 ‘SQ3R, 질문하기, 요약하기, 중심생각 수레바퀴, 대조표, 상호텍스트’ 등과 같은 전략들이 주요 전략으로 사용되고 있었다. 기능 측면에서는 전략들은 정보텍스트의 이해, 독립적인 학습 유지, 비판적 사고 기능 등을 주로 의도하고 있었다. 그러나 학습읽기 전략 제시의 명시성은 높지 않았다. 초등 사회과 교과서를 개선하기 위해서는 학습읽기 전략을 좀 더 명시화, 체계화 하고, 교사용지도서에도 학습읽기 전략에 관한 정보를 제공할 필요가 있다. 교과서에 출현 빈도가 높은 주요 학습읽기 전략들을 중심으로 교사교육을 기획하고 실행할 필요가 있다. 교과서 개발에 읽기교육 전공자들이 컨설턴트로 참여할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the content area reading strategies in the Korean elementary social studies textbook to improve the content subject textbooks. Traditionally, reading researcher distinguished learning to read in the language arts and reading to learn in the content area. The language art, specially reading, is a tool in the learning content subjects. As a results, the strategies such as ‘SQ3R, questioning, summarizing, wheel of main idea, contrast table, and intertextuality,’ are most frequently appeared. These strategies intended to improve the comprehension of informational texts, developing independence in learning, critical thinking skills, and academic vocabulary. However most of these strategies are not clearly presented. To improve the elementary social studies textbook, a few policy were suggested. Clearing the presentation of strategies, including content area reading strategies in the teacher’s manuals, planning the teacher education with priority given to frequently strategies, and participating reading researcher as consultant are necessary.
