드라마 <응답하라 1988> 중국어 자막에 나타난 문화소 번역 전략 양상

국문 초록

목적: 본 연구는 드라마 <응답하라 1988> 중국어 자막에 나타난 문화소를 분석함으로써 번역본에 어떤 전략이 어떻게 사용되고 있는지 양상을 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법: 이를 위해 원천 문화와 관련된 어휘, 관용구를 Aixela(1996)의 문화소 번역 전략을 토대로 <응답하라 1988> 1회와 20회의 중국어 자막을 분석하였다. 결과: 원천문화와 관련이 있는 어휘는 의식주, 풍습, 호칭, 제도를 하위항목으로 나누어 살펴보았는데, 그 결과 의복 문화소는 보존 전략, 음식, 주(住), 제도 문화소는 대체 전략이 우세하였다. 풍습과 호칭 문화소는 출현 빈도가 낮은 가운데 보존, 대체 전략이 확인되었다. 한편 관용구는 속담, 사자성어, 관용어로 구분하여 살펴보았는데, 목표어 텍스트 독자들에게 익숙한 표현이 많이 사용되고, 언어 중심 직역과 문화 특색을 덜 지닌 어휘로 대체하는 방식이 활용되고 있었다. 결론: 목표어 텍스트 독자가 만족하는 드라마 번역을 위해서는 원천 문화의 특성이 반영된 문화소에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 하며, 상황에 맞게 번역 전략을 활용할 수 있어야 한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the aspects of strategies used in the translation of the Chinese subtitles by analyzing the cultural- specific items(CSIs) in the drama . Methods: For this purpose, vocabulary and idioms in Chinese subtitles of the episode 1 and 20 of which are related to the local culture were analyzed based on Aixela (1996)’s culture-specifical item translation strategy. Results: For the vocabulary related to the local culture, the conservation strategy prevailed in the clothing CSIs while the substitution strategy prevailed in the food, housing, and institutional CSIs. The custom and title CSIs were less frequent, and conservation and substitution strategies were used. When it comes to idiomatic phrases, we found expressions familiar to readers of the target language were used a lot, and language-oriented direct translations and replacement with inconspicuous cultural characteristics were being used. Conclusion: To translate a drama that satisfies the readers of the target language, it is necessary to understand the CSIs reflecting the characteristics of the local culture, and to be able to use the translation strategies according to the situation.
