메타버스 기반의 교양한국어 교과목에 대한 외국인 유학생들의 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 메타버스 기반 교양한국어 교과목 개설을 위한 기초 연구로서 메타버스를 활용한 한국어 교수·학습에 대한 학습자의 인식을 조사하고 실제 수업에 시범 적용함으로써 교육과정 개발의 구체적인 방향성을 모색하고자 하였다. 메타버스는 가상세계에서의 실재감 높은 상호작용을 통해 학습의 몰입도와 이해도를 향상시킬 수 있는 새로운 교육 매체로서 최근 언어 교육에서도 활발하게 적용되고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 메타버스에 대한 한국어 학습자들의 친숙도와 선호도, 기대 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 서울 소재 A대학의 외국인 유학생 534명을 대상으로 인식 조사를 실시한 결과 메타버스를 활용한 경험과 이해도는 낮은 반면, 메타버스라는 새로운 교육 매체를 활용한 한국어 교과목 개설에는 높은 관심을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 의사소통 기능 중 말하기와 연계한 교과목 개설에 가장 큰 기대를 보이고 있었다. 이에 A대학의 말하기 분반을 대상으로 메타버스를 활용한 시범 수업을 실시하고 학습자 반응 조사를 실시하였다. 학습자들은 수업 운영 면에서 메타버스를 전면 온라인으로 활용하기보다는 오프라인 또는 온·오프를 병행한 방식으로 진행되는 것을 선호하였으며, 친숙한 학교 공간이나 한국의 상징적인 공간을 실제적으로 구현한 메타버스에서 학습하기를 원하였다.

영문 초록

As basic research for establishing the metaverse-based Korean language course as general education, this study aimed to seek concrete direction for the development of curriculum by conducting a survey on learners’ perception of the teaching/learning of Korean language using the metaverse, and then to apply the results to actual classes on a trial basis. As of late, the metaverse is being actively applied to language education as a new educational medium that could improve the immersion and understanding of learning among students through interaction with a high level of presence in the virtual world. Thus, this thesis aimed to understand the familiarity, preference, and expected effect of the metaverse targeting Korean language learners. From the results of conducting a perception survey targeting a total of 534 foreign students of A university located in Seoul, we learned that the students showed a low degree of experience with and understanding of the metaverse, but that they professed a high level of interest in the establishment of a Korean language course using this new educational medium. In particular, they expressed the highest expectation for the establishment of a course connected with speaking among their communication skills. Thus, this study provided a pilot class using the metaverse to the divided speaking class of A university, and then conducted a survey on learners’ responses. Concerning the operation of the class, the learners preferred offline or an on/offline combined method instead of fully using the metaverse online. Also, they wanted to learn in a kind of metaverse that realistically reflected a familiar school space or some kind of Korean symbolic space.
