국문 초록

이 논문은 조선조 후기에 본격적으로 자기 존재를 드러낸 泮人의 존재와 그 기질을 분석한 것이다. 조선조 후기 반인의 모습은 기왕의 관노비와 매우 다르다. 노비의 존재를 뛰어넘어 그들 고유의 집단의식과 정체성을 바탕으로 자기만의 존재 방식과 기질을 보여주었다. 반인의 성격과 기질은 단일하지 않고 조선조 후기 공간에서 실로 다양한 모습과 인간 기질을 표출하였다. 이러한 반인의 성격과 기질은 기본적으로 泮村이라는 역사적 공간을 배경으로 하였다. 반촌은 성균관과 문묘와 같은 공간에 속했던 반촌은 반인 특유의 성격과 기질 형성에도 적지 않은 역할을 하였다. 반인은 반촌에 정주한 이래로 오랜 기간 같은 공간에서 생활하면서 그들만의 언어와 복식, 그리고 특유의 기질을 형성했다. 이를 토대로 반인은 폭력성과 대담성을 보이는가 하면, 성균관과 문묘에 종사하면서 형성한 유교 지식을 바탕으로 한 모습 등 상반되는 인간 기질을 표출하였다. 이러한 두 상반된 인간 기질은 다양한 성향의 행동과 의식으로 표출되었다. 특히 천주교에 투신하여 새로운 가치를 추구한 행동은 주목할 만하고, 이들의 반인 의식은 근대 전환기에도 학교를 설립하는 방식으로도 이어졌다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the existence and temperament of Banin(泮人), who revealed his existence in earnest in the late Joseon Dynasty. Banin(泮人)'s appearance in the late Joseon Dynasty is very different from that of the previous period. Beyond the existence ofNobi(奴婢), they showed their own way of existence and temperament based on their own collective consciousness and identity. The character and temperament of the anti-person are not single, and various appearances and human temperament were expressed in the late Joseon Dynasty space. These anti-personality and temperament basically came from the historical space of Banchon(泮村). Banchon(泮村), which belonged to the same space as Sungkyunkwan(成均館) and Munmyo(文廟), also played a significant role in the formation of Banin(泮人)'s unique character and temperament. Banin(泮人) has lived in the same space for a long time since settling in Banchon, forming their own language, clothing, and unique temperament. Based on this, the anti-person showed violence and boldness, while expressing conflicting temperament, such as the appearance based on Confucian knowledge formed while working in Sungkyunkwan(成均館) and Munmyo(文廟). These two opposite temperaments were expressed with actions and consciousness of various tendencies. In particular, the act of pursuing new values by jumping into Catholicism is noteworthy, and their Banin(泮人)'s consciousness led to the establishment of a school during the modern transition period.
